Hi all,

I've just bought this bus from Nick (67panel) in SA and thought I better introduce myself viewtopic.php?t=10956

I'm very happy to be a split owner at last after looking for one over the last few years. My wife and I lived and worked in the UK nearly 20 years ago (I'm 42 now) and did what all good self-respecting aussies used to do and got ourselves a Kombi Camper to do some touring in. Ours was a lowlight Dormobile which was a rusty piece of work which frequently let us down. Bit of problem when you have only a few tools and no garage to work out of! While it was basically a POS I guess that sparked some interest in VW's and Kombi's particularly which has grown over the years.

About 7 years ago I got myself a Formula Vee which has meant a fair bit of time working on various VW mechanicals and hanging around a few VW specialist workshops. The racecar was converted from the old 1200 rules a few years back to a 1600 twinport with disc brakes, balljoint front end and rack and pinion steering. With 60hp at the wheels and around 500kg with driver they will do around 190kph on long straights like Phillip Island or Mt Panorama (I raced it there in 2008) which is great in itself but they can carry pretty impressive corner speeds which really heightens the fun. Mick and Daniel Reinhardt at Australian VW Performance in Croydon look after the mechanical/engine building side of things as they do for most of the cars in Victoria.

Anyway I'm looking forward to getting into the VW scene a bit more and cruising around in my new splitty. I'm sure I'll catch up with some of the Victorian guys (and girls) in due course

Congrats Davin. You've got a lovely bus there. A nice one to have as your first. Look forward to meeting you and seeing it again now it's back in Vic. You must come to the Jamboree in March. Enjoy.
Cheers
