Thought I'd post a little bit about myself.
I've been lurking on the forums for a while now. I'm from the UK and moved over here about 8 years ago.
My VW history is I got a 1302s at 16 that I tarted up a bit as a cal look. It was bright orange with blacked out windows, back seat was removed for a sub box. Lowered it a bit and put some nice fat tyres on.
Sold that one after a few years when I saw a really low mileage beige '67 (I think, was so long ago) one owner bug that had been sitting in a garage for 18 years after he'd gone blind. When he died he left the car to the mechanic who'd done the servicing on it from new to sell it for him. I remember it still had the original tyres that made it pretty fun to try and stop in the wet. I didn't need to do anything to this one and just polished it and drove it around till I sold it to pay for my wedding.
Had a Golf VR6 for a while then bought a '59 camper that was dragged out of a shed. Was pretty tatty but got it running and drove it around for a few years while my wife had the VR6 before we sold them and moved to Australia. Kinda wish I'd shipped my splitty out with me but cash was a bit tight with the move.
Bought a bay window pop top when we arrived from a VW dealer in Labrador QLD, he had some nice looking splits there but were out of my price range at the time. It was a '76 i think and all pretty original. That got written off a few months later in a crash. It was an easy repair but my better half didn't trust the brakes anymore so we ended up getting a brand new reliable car :/
So i've been dubless for 7 years and want to get a split again that I can work on properly this time as it won't be my daily driver. will be good to get back into the VW scene. I used to love the weekly club meet ups and Bug Jams back in the UK
I'm living in Tea Gardens NSW (about an hour north of Newcastle) now so hopefully once I'm back into things again there'll be some shows or cruises to come along to
