New to DSK.. 65 Aussie Splitty resto

Post by DUB187 »

Hey Guys,

New to the air cooled scene.. I've got a resto project 65 Aussie built kombi.. current owner of a mk1 golf, lucky enough to take the trophy for best mk1 at the nationals.. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to drive my Kombi through the gates one day soon!

Open to any advise regarding parts etc to get me underway.

I'll post some pics shortly.

These are my toys..

Looking for original bumpers for the splitty.. From what I've been reading, the 65 was the transition between two bumper types? I really like the slash bumpers..

In the process of having the rust looked at to be priced up and repaired.. Any recommendations?

I recently bought original seats that recommended Ths forum to me.. So stoked to get the seats!

Also want to buy all the safari windows.. Any recommendations to buy in bulk? Looking for a primed finish rather than polished.

Many more questions to come!

Mango? I might have a front bumper. Will take a pic and show you.

I wouldn't worry about safaris for a while. Get the body work sorted and buy accessories once you have replenished your bank account.

You know what they say, you don't pick the car, it picks you..

It's not a project to fix and sell, it's a forever thing so I don't mind saving it.. Wasn't interested in buying a splitty that was finished.

I wouldn't go too crazy buying parts until you get the bodywork quote. If you are not doing it yourself and want it to be a forever car it is going to be big $$$
