Not new to buses but first time on DSK

Hi people.
I'm not a newbie by any means.
A few well known faces in the VW scene would recognise my dumb mug.
Have had a "long term project" for a while now, probably verging on 6 years actually.
It was in storage over the past 18 months as we were house sitting and now I should be able to do some stuff on it.
Anyhow, just thought I'd hook up with the VW Bus scene again as the missus is itching to get the splitty on the road as we'd like a second car and I can do with all the help and encouragement I can get!

Welcome mate,

Where abouts are you? You mentioned Mitchell and the splitty on the container - know that bus well.....

Ah, yes, I though it was just a matter of time before that came up. :D
Here she is.
Kitty we call her.

As you can see the seam in the front sill was not fabricated when the panel beater fixed the usual rust across the front skirt but with a bumper on it's invisible.
I have a standard Type 2 1600 twin port from a 71 Bay that's done around 20k to drop right into her.
It did easy work and was just run in by the PO before he parted out the bus due to big rust problems and copious other cars in his posession.
When I was still living in Sydney I had it checked by Klaack Motors and they said all the compression and seals were perfect.
In fact it ran beautifully.
But after driving a modern car for a while I'd like a little more oomph and (I know I'm a wuss) aircon.
In fact the whole heating/cooling thing has to be dealt with as we live in the Southern Tablelands and it gets very cold in winter.
So, that means a soft pressure supercharger (probably a Toyota) and a larger carb along with a easier exhaust.
Some sort of external oil cooler is also a must for that sort of extra strain on the engine.
The guy I bought her from has converted her to IRS, although I daresay I'll need to have that safety checked by a reputable bus shop, and I have a decent L-Bug box to put in her.
He also changed the front end to balljoint to fit disc brakes but I'm not sure I'll keep the beam the way it is.
Lowering (mild of course) goes without saying.
I'd like to put the original wide five wheels on it using adapter plates on the Bay discs and that probably means a narrowed beam.
Aside of that?
A rock'n'roll bed, simple car stereo, a good set of spotlights to light up the road.
Oh, and some sort of bull bar I can fit when necessary.
There are too many bloody roos at night.
My tally with my current 4x4 ute is 3 roos and a wallaroo and they were all hit on roads I also drove my last bus along, a '77 9-seater.
At this point however running and registered is what counts first.
Pretty paint jobs don't even really fuss me.
There isn't really enough water down here to wash a car so it'll be functional, maybe even Wehrmacht Matt Sand or the like.
Dust won't show up on that!!
I'll try and take some pics later.
The ones I have aren't recent or all that good.

Well, the build timetable has moved up a gear.
My missus is due to have sprog #3 in October and our current 4x4 dual cab only has 2 child restraint points and very little room.
As such, we've decided the bus is the go. :D
But, of course, we're now racing the clock.
For a little while finances seemed like a real obstacle but due to the baby bonus and a few other nice surprises it's all coming together.
Steve from KombiRescue is due to come take a look at her this week and I've also got to have a panel beater come take a look so we can get a quote for a basic spray job to make her look presentable.
Wehrmacht Sand colour is still looking like a good option but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't go some sort of 2-tone.
The problem with with that is that it's all been done before in terms of colours and 2-tone buses tend to stick out like a sore thumb.
Additionally the panel was originally either Lotus White or Artic White, can't remember which makes it boring if I go with the original.
Any ideas would be appreciated
Fortunately a mate is a motor trimmer and has agreed to retrim the seats if my missus teaches his daughter the guitar......gotta love bartering!
Whatever the case stuff should be worked out by the end of the week and we'll be in a position to get things up and going.
When things get going I'll start a new thread and post pics as we go along.
