Just dropping in to say Hi!
Joined this board to get a feel what's going on Down Under. I lived in western Sydney for a number of years, but now I'm located in Latvia, northern Europe.
Not new to VWs. Got my first one in 1985. Never had a type 2, although almost bought a '62 Kombi once... but that's a different (and short) story.
Looking forward to sponging up some info, and perhaps even contributing some, where possible.
thanks,
Cheers!

From the title I thought God had joined up! He'd probably drive a splitty.
Welcome.

Hello latvia, feels like Eurovision song contest. So is there a vw scene in Latvia to speak of? I've seen a few pictures of rusty splits in Poland, I imagine a good one would be a rare thing indeed. Are salty roads the norm in Latvia also?

Thanks guys!
Actually there is a vw scene here. In July we celebrated 10 year anniversary of the first get-together. Since then we been busy with several local events plus driving to neighbouring countries for their events. These are not really shows as such, but scenic drives with picnic stops, camping and partying (which includes sampling of the local brews)
Our fleet is made up of mostly '70ies beetles, '80ies and '90ies Mexican bugs, and a handful of baywindow busses. Not so exciting, but all those are driven. I reckon things are getting better as more new arrivals take up residence here; people are bringing old VWs over from Germany and Sweden.
The one and only splitty we have here is a '58 dove blue panel, a recent import from California. It since underwent a restoration and is about to make its debut this coming weekend.
Ah yes, the dreaded salt keeps our beloved vws off the streets during winter. That sucks!
