Re: Darwin '67 11 Window Resto Project
A bit more progress today.
Front hubs pulled and brake shoes removed. Check out the funky shock mounts!
Roo bar removed - I had to grind off one of the brackets as the bolt was inaccessible. The other bolts took a bit of shifting.....

Cooling scoops removed.
Removed the tailgate seal and started on the cargo doors.
Well I think its fair to say the front under side of the bus is knackered....lot of work to do there

Front windscreens and side fixed glass out. Most of the rubbers were so old and hard they had to be chisseled out!
The good news is all of the window surrounds are in good nick.

And then on to the front. Nice to be getting into it with the power tools
Measured the cut using the repair section as a template, but might have to get a taller repair piece. See how we go later.....
Are the light fixtures usually welded into the light bowls?

Cheers, both bowls are rusty in places so not sure if they be saved.
Anyone know a source of new ones?
The bottoms of each A pillar are knackered as well so I think it might be a steep learning curve!

Re: Darwin '67 11 Window Resto Project
A bit more progress, I think I finally have a line on a shed space a bit closer to home, sharing with another mate.
Hopefully get it sorted after Easter as soon as the other bugger moves out!
A few stuff ups like pulling one of the side window frames through the door top before realising there's a couple of bolts there holding it down as well as the big bolts on the ends
Snapped off one of the fuel tank bolts mid extraction as well, despite my best efforts.

I cant tell you how much I love my cordless impact driver now, worth its weight in GOLD
Bit peeved the dash has been hacked
Whilst the window areas are all really good, the door bottoms are a different story.
So which sun visor is correct for a '67?
And did Oz '67's have round mirrors or the fugly elephant ears?
Cheers

Re: Darwin '67 11 Window Resto Project
Finally into a shed, sharing with a mate and its about 10 minutes away which makes life a tad easier.
Got a bit of time over the weekend to get stuck in, floor out next I reckon but I need to find a new heater tube in the meantime, anyone have any sources for the section that runs under the cab floor and seats?
Headlight bowls were a major pain and are knackered. I'm hoping I can save the floor with patches but will have to see how I go. I want to pull it out anyway to get to everything underneath so I can clean it up and paint before I weld anything back in.

Oh and one thing I've discovered is not to buy sheet metal until after you've cut out the rot, because its always worse than you think!
I'm going to have to buy a new lower nose section thats a bit taller and the two side patches for the cab floor might not be much help if I cant save the middle bit!
Its all a learning curve....

Good luck with it Cam and have fun. Make sure you post an extraction thread for that parts bus if you end up grabbing it.
Squat, place chin on chest, tuck head and tip forward, shoulders connect with ground and back follows through, legs go over the top and feet land on the ground. That's how I roll!
