you pay good money for old window frames at restorer's.

I thought they were Ye Olde English style safaries!

LOL!!
The windows were left behind.
The glass was broken and I suspect Mike, the property owner, has a use for them.
Anyhow, just more hassle for me.

pump the tyre up with heaps of air then spray lube on the trailer bed , that will help it slide once you tie it to the tree. Had to get a beetle on my trailer with both front drums seized and this worked quite good just a bit messy , hook another car up to it and drag it off.
good find too

I towed my mango for a short distance and that got three of the wheels to break free. The third I got the puller onto. I made a drum puller out of 12mm plate and some bolts. Works a treat. Havent found a drum that can beat it yet. Very nice find by the way.

The frickin' grinder burnt out as I was cutting the drum.
Damn Stupid Cheap!!
It's going back tomorrow.
I'll probably burn out the next one too.
In the finish we tied the bus to a nearby electricity pole (a'la Dan) and slowly but surely got it off.
Some time when I'm sitting down with you guys and a beer I'll tell you the whole story.
I wish I'd taken footage.......
The funny thing is I reckon this steering box is tighter than the one on my '67.

Rusty pics.......

Post by kombi1976 »

Today I got out in the sunshine and took some pics of the rust.
It maybe Buses 1 - Grinders 0 but it is definitely Buses 1/2 - Rust 1/2.
TONS of work.
What really worries me is the roof.
Most of the gutter on the driver's side is rusted through and the fact it's been jumped on means it's pushed the rust holes open, if you understand my meaning.
We may be looking at a donor roof.
See what you think.
Driver's cab floor.....no surprises there:
Image

Front side bumper mount:

Behind the driver's side front wheel:

And now the horror......the driver's side gutters:
Image

Image

The passenger step and bumper mount. The passenger door is stuck so I couldn't check the floor although I reckon it's be a match for the driver's door.
Image

Behind the passenger side front wheel.
Image

Bottoms of the cargo doors:
Image

And horror once more......a rust hole above the B-pillar(?):
Image

And right along above the cargo doors:
Image

A rust hole at the bottom of the A-pillar:
Image

And hints of rust inside, probably because of the hole outside:
Image

Inside under the doors.....
Image

Inside along the sills and in the back corner:

And behind the bulkhead:

So, donor roof or no?
I'd like to keep the roof and push it out rather than have another one but I'm not sure that's possible.
First the holes would have to be fixed, then the floor fixed, then probably some sort of jack mechanism to push it up.
A LOT of hard work.
Whatever the case there is plenty of time.
If there wasn't decent bits in her I'd part her out but I think she has a future.
Anyone have the number for Gerson.........?? :|

Nope, that's something I have to search for - a single OG safari frame in salvageable shape.
I know Elton had a pair he pulled off a bus down in Adelong.
I suspect they weren't all that hot.
I'll be looking for old popouts too.
