Hi Joe,

looks like your son has already inherited some of your skills..

The super-vw would make a cool front badge on a bigger scale..

Great progress and pics..
Wanted..Barny bits or 60's Supercharger other than Judson

Amazing Progress

Post by Giobus »

Hi Joe,

Great progress - you have achieved more in the last few weeks than l have in the last few years!!!

>>Keep it up and get that great bus on the road - before your son wants his projects in the garage.

As he is showing signs of a great craftsman just like his dad.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Yep my son wants to make an emblem for the bus :)

Giobus, is that your project?

Here is a video on floor removal

With this video I used the flat head drill bit.

Evening Joe,

>>>Your work is just amazing !!!

Like in 'Trade School' but you know & show what to do.

GREAT WORK

No, the Hilux is my son's car, mine is the 'Wrapped up bus' in the drive way shown in the picture attached.

The other car was our joint project ~ VolksRod - a Hybrid of a Beetle, Type 3, Dodge & a lot of metal shaping that Shaun began his life in the VW clan.

Thanks Leroy

So tonight i had my second class in mig welding.
Damn good fun:)
Takes confidence, timing and hand eye coordination.

So my current challenges are:

The garage needs to be a comfortable environment to work in, and with this Melbourne winter temperature lately, it gets freezing in the garage. This makes it hard to work out there and impossible to paint. I am researching forms of heating. This also means that my makeshift shade cloth door and fly screen door need to be replaced with real doors, and I will need to improve the lighting in there.

In next weeks welding class I want to make a frame that bolts to the van with caster wheels that will allow me to move the van around in the garage. The front should be straight forward as I can bolt something to the six bolting points where the beam goes. But the back will be a little more challenging

A butt weld, So this will be an acquired skill when working with thin metal. It took me a few goes not to burn through this 2mm steel, so I can imagine how tricky the body metal will be

All the skills you have already in abundance!

As for the rear, maybe this type of rig? 2 casters, 2 pieces of metal, 2 holes
