You are doing a fantastic job to such a high level of quality for your first split.

Your next one will be a breeze...

Been busy on other projects lately, but got a bit done yesterday. Started off with a shed cleanout to get back to some sort of order. Then spun it around on the hoist so I can get at the driver's side front. The first job is the inner closeout panel on the B Pillar. Still need to do the funky top section. Then will get stuck into the dogleg.

Managed another day on it today, hopefully, the other projects should come to an end next weekend, then I can get stuck back into it. Got the driver's side B Pillar inner finished off, removed the joining strip to the old dogleg and got the new dogleg fitted. Came up pretty nice. Slow and steady wins the race getting it fit the best you can. I used tek screws and started with it hard against the B Pillar then gradually worked forward using screws to hold it in place getting the gap and position right as I went. Once I had it all welded it up. Still a little bit to finish off around the A-pillar but it's in, and happy with the result.

Hi All, I am going to be fitting polished safaris to my bus. Yes, I know that they are non-original!! Since I have had to replace the whole front screen frame I currently have access to the back-side of the top of the window frames. I understand OE safaris have a backing plate in there to screw into. I also appreciate some people don't bother with it, but given mines open I thought I would.

My question is, can I buy the backing plate on its own? If not does anyone have the dimensions and maybe I make them? Any other thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Creative engineering/bus stop sell them. There’s dimensions on the samba to make your own.

Hi Mate,
I made some up when I did my bus unfortunately I didn't take any dimensions but I found as I had stainless steel polished safaris I had to modify the window frame a bit to have them fit with perfect gaps. If you already have the safaris it may pay to dry fit to see what your gaps are like - just a suggestion.
Cheers
Pete

Yea just been doing some research, might be a bit of a long shot to be able to fit them accurately until i have the actual Safaris which I don't yet. I guess its no biggie I will just leave off the cover panels until later. Just would have liked to have finished it all off. Thanks all for the help.

I’ve got a pair of the CE safaris here, you could always borrow them to make your plates and get them set up.
