had trouble with it only firing on one side, was using a 12v battery to kick start it as well, sorted out the prob with the points been too far apart, readjusted them, set the timing right an away she went in a puff of smoke.

fyi, she also starts on 6v now!!!

now ive done a mischief.
ive found a 1960 40hp stale air bus engine with correct air filter for the old girl, only a couple of months difference with the engine an ute, so i just need to collect the engine, give it the once over, (on the engine stand this time not in the car), pull the bug engine out an install the correct one for it.
this is the only pic i have of it so far. but the numbers are closer to the cars build. (thanks a bucketload to Chris with the engines)
Image
but where does the preheat tube go to? (indicated by arrow) can anyone tell me? i know it goes through the back tinware...to where? i know as soon as i find out ill be like oh, im an idiot. haha
Image
and gettin rid of the chrome hubcaps for some og ratty commercials. look through my collection of bits an found 2 sets of them. the buckled ones will go onto the drivers side so it looks a bit more like its been dropped on its side. wicked..

the wiring is doing my head in, some power to places an none to others...

The pre heater pipe goes to a connection that should be on the left heater box up the top near where exhaust flange.

Here is a Pic of AJ's 65. Im not sure if it's the same for an earlier model, but this thing is as close to "new" being un-restored as I have ever seen.

Dion,

When I pulled the heads off to put new cylinder head sealing copper rings in my 36hp I just used a cut up piece of galvanised shelving with a vice grip to get the cylinder rings back in. Did the trick!

Be good to get it going under its own steam!

And No a 356 engine won't fit straight in there ;)

Cheers
