-nothing to report really-

now got the motor in, the rear bar's on and aligned.

Bought some little hot-rod indicators for the front and back to go on. made up brakets for the mud flaps - big arsed white mud flaps....the saas boss has gone to be re-alloyed, then drilled to fit the new steering wheel.

The window frames need to go back in ((and they haven't been fixed...another day)). Then all the electrics need doing before I get it back for the interior work.

Need the bodywork guy for a day, and he's busy ... so kinda come to a stop last week or so ... which is a bad thing, as one's mind starts dreaming up new plans.

Thats what happens when you drink too much coffee and zero coke....sold my Gay Window, so cleaned that up ready for it's trip south on the weekend...and told the missus I need a new toy and got the big tick of approval. Even gave the Sube it's annual wash.

So good week really.

Guess it will be ready for the Split Together ... can't be arsed taking it to the Nationals, no driving involved there, and too many questions, leave that to Darren. Hopefully take something 'new' to Valla. All depends on may things....hahahaha.

Has come a long way in the 9 months...

Image

and before that ... ah everyones seen rust-arsed panels before...

At Easter it will be 1 year of work....hope to have it 'done' by then.

Cheers

a year of work

Post by pmgbus »

i know what u mean about little bits stalling the project, my neon ute is at just about the same stage as your panel, am going through switches at the moment, trying to clean or find better odds and ends. i cant put the eng in till i replace the clutch fork bushes, cant sit the tank in till i get the filler neck rubber etc. getting the bus painted is only half the work, but at least you can see the light at the end, inspires u to keep going! did u buy generic rivets for your front door frame latches and 1/4 vents or buy the ones from wolfsburg west or west coast metric?

Been working on my graphics for the bus ... As it's a toy more than work, don't want to put a phone number on the paint ... but will in the glass...

anyway a) need somewhere near Penriff that can make these without stuffing up the van and b) does it look okay??? - not sure whether to logo the door or not ... favouring not.

It sez Peace Love in German ... didn't want something 'obvious' like splitacino or kombi koffee - all too naff. Wanted something that looks and sound old school. The DSK font works well. Lettering I hope to be gun-metal grey with silver insert for the crest and logo. Trying also to avoid the use of iron cross stuff - think that west cost hairdressers thing has had it's day.

Have been thinking of getting old school painter to signwrite it, but scared they'll bodge it....

Hanging out to airbrush the spats in too or maybe get someone - anyone know a good airbrusher??? Want 'steel plate' with rivets and oil under a drop shadow, plus I want those recesses that the yanks put on Sabre fighters to house the cannons....kabooooommmm. To OTT? Nah....

Anyone got the Mr Whippy Ice Cream truck music on MP3?

With luck it might be on the ground when I pop in tommorrow, so can get some better photies to play with. Maaan I love Photoshop.

Anyone know anyone who can 're-alloy'. My boss for the replacement steering wheel has too many holes, so need to re-allow it and re-drill.

Also need someone who knows something about cabinet making ... need to make up a L shaped seat inside that won't crap itself. Not sure how to go about constucting it. Need the seat to come off, so I can shove stuff inside - like amps, inverters, speakers, battery, water tanks, filters, pumps .... so gotta be strong.

Good to be talking about the insides...

Cheers

Thanks bob --- those rubbers aint leaked yet btw. You want them back - swap ya for the safaris.

Would some chassis green neons be way to gay or not??? - while I'm at it ... not for driving, but as I wanna do some night work (cause I've got a real job), thought that they might look okay in a car park - guess eGay will have them - or are they a bit Lbug

aw thanks. Not so much care, but more - like to get people's thoughts/experience when heading into new waters.

Its a wierd feeling to be able to do what you like on your car, especially after too many years waiting in the wings so to speak. The wierdest thing lately was when we did a mortgage application, and the panel is probably now worth more than the wife's Sube (assuming you'd find someone to buy it). Never thought that would be me.
