My Old Girl. 55 SC

Post by Ian 68 »

Hey All,

After a very rough 2010 which saw me having to sell my 60 11 window ( to a fellow DSK'er and all round good guy ) things settled for us and instead of heading back to the UK we decided to stay.
A new job in August last year cemented things and all's good now, so..
I guess it's about time to show the new arrival ...

It's a May 55 single cab, lots of lovely dove blue goodness, OG factory safari's,bench seat and all in all, pretty good shape.
Bought from Rick in Jan this year and finally got it on Australia day after a massive road trip by Rick from Melbourne to the Sunny Coast with a few stops on the way.

A fair bit has been done since arrival, inner and outer sills, jacking points, outriggers, cross members, inner steps, treasure chest floor both sides and a little bit more to go, just tidying the gates and leaving as many dings, scrapes and bashes as possible.

Plans are to IRS the rear, single side plate box, bay tank, big engine ( all this is sourced and in hand ) discs up front on a dropped K & L beam which will be totally rebuilt, again sorted.

My thanks so far to the fella doing the body work, his skills are off the hook ( I'm a fitter and turner and know lots of tinsmiths but this fellas skills ! ) Dion for going over and above many times, yet to meet you mate but I do owe a beer or 10 very very soon, Elton for the panels which have all been superb, Bernie,Scott in Bris, Rick @ Volks recycle, Bruce and Fam for their time and to everyone else who I've spoken to for advise and help over the phone and by email.
I hope you like the Old Girl ? A few 55 's around now in Qld, another 55 SC just down the road as well, looking forward to getting it on the road soon !

I was wanting to get a lot of the hard yards done before posting things up to be honest but I guess having had it now for nearly 6 months I did ok.

I'm not sure of the actual date in May but 100% it's May 55..more work was done yesterday, new metal let in under passenger floor area to strengthen it right up, need to speak to Elton again about a battery tray, also work started on passenger side sills etc, just a little way to go now before it's home to it's new shed...I'm having a new shed as well....!
My neighbour says every man should have a shed so I figured it's about time I had one, so we got a Titan 6.5 x 3.5 for the ute and my bench etc.
I'm in for an op on Wednesday and will be off work a few weeks, the slab is being laid next week and the shed a few days after..it's all coming together nicely.
Thanks for the kind words Scott, you off to Byron this weekend ?

If you want a good coffee, check out Targa on the corner of Marvell st, had the pleasure a couple of weeks back in the company of Bruce and his Fam.
That 54 is the best bus I have ever seen...enjoy
