57 Golden Fleece Rat Panel

Post by Stealth »

This is my 57 Panel.

It is a commercial Blue Panel van that was found on a property Shepparton way. The story goes that a guy found it on some land he just bought in the 60's, he then dragged it up to the new shed he built and stored it up on blocks in a nice dry shed for another 30 odd years until it was rescued by a local enthusiast who then sold it to me. I got it home and started to clean all the years of dirt, crap, moss and years of faded paint. I dropped a motor in it and fired the ol girl up, it was great to drive her around my back yard and down the street. :D

The DOVW 2004 was her debut in a show, even thought she was a trailer queen for a day. It was great to see her in the glory it deserves.

The Panel has original paint and is getting a straight axle beetle box installed (as soon as my foot heals :? ) Then she will be down to my local vw mechanic for a brake job and final tidying up.

Safari's, front and rear should not be too far away as well. Then a period sign writing on the side to complete the Rat Look ..... look

The wheels are Rostyles or as comonly known as South African Sprintstars. I have more to go her like a fan fare horns, spot lights and rear fog and reverse lights. plus period accessorys like electric demisters, dash fan, period radio, 8 track player etc. I'll post more updated photo's as soon as i can. Hope you enjoy

Put the 74 beetle box in the bus friday, then took her down to the mechanic for a brake and motor rebuild plus a few other little things to get her ready.
Rear end dropped nicely with the straight axle adaptors. Now can't wait for the dropped spindles to go in to make the stance match the rear. I won't be needing the trailer anymore as i will be driving the bus home this time!! :thumb

looks great,
i think when the motor goes in it will be pretty low then even lower once it all settles, you might need to think about fitting some adjusters with the spindles if thats how low its going to be. andy sells adjusters for about $80 and they are not to hard to fit .
just a thought as it looks real nice and low you wouldnt want to bring it up.
sweet bus
