My 57 11 window project - RUSTA

Post by Dasdubber »

Thanks to sketty (Chris) off this very forum for selling me this fine old 57 11 window.

After selling my double door panel to Ben (ready for a ratty resto), I needed a split to to fill the void (since the barny will be a much longer term resto). Therefore this bus will suffice - will be much more family friendly with our new bub on the way in less than two months!

Anyway plans are to fix the necessary rust and have it structurally sound for rego purposes but it will keep its current patina where possible for now. Hopefully get it on the road as soon as time permits although I'll only really be only able to work on it after hours (since I will be busy with other people's projects nowadays!).

As you can see I need a front seat and some other bits!

Although its rusty the thing I love about this bus is there are no previous "repairs" I will have to undo - what you see is what you get! No shiny paint to hide nasties :)

After collection today from sketty, I dropped it off to Custom Veedub for an IRS conversion. Once I get it back I'll narrow the beam and start the rust repairs. I'd like to have it on the road for valla but I think I'll be too tied up with other's resto's which have to come first!

more progress when it happens

Probably just a wee-little engine to get it on the road....I have a reverse rotation Chev Corvair engine (originally from Kombibob) that has been waiting patiently for many years....so I think that will end up in the bus at a later stage!

Unless of course I get pursuaded to put in my 2442 turbo/efi engine currently being built....but I want to run that in the oval to see how quick it can go in the quarter first.

That baby has patina in spades....!
Definately has the makings of a very cool ride..
Will look forward to more pics as it progresses.

Love it!!
I know what you mean about "what you see is what you get, no shiny paint" my `59 Mango is in original paint with no previous repairs. You can never recreate that look either. Preserve it!

Sorry I didn't have a chance to chat more yesterday Chris - had to be back on the coast for our obstetrician appt (lucky the doctor was running 2 hours late as I was about 1 1/2 hours late)!!

Hope to have a less rushed chat next time we meet. Glad to see the 15 window can reclaim the shed space!
