I posted this in the panel thread and it was sugested that I post it here in Members rides and projects.
so here it is

This is my 64 panel named Freddy, by my wife Melanie.

Below is a link to a story I wrote about it and my adventure of finding it, bringing it home and then fixing it up.

Nice pics!

Looks a little similar to my 59 when I first got it.

Yeah, it sure does,

Arnold says, "Vincent, I am your twin brother."

He he he

I had a dove blue 59 with all 9 seats, but sold it about 3 years ago when I was desperate for money, but thats ok, cos I have heard it is now in the last stages of a full restoration, where if I still owned it, it would probably still be sitting where it was, So thats good.

Cheers, Anthony

Anthony, that's a top story.
You clearly have been in the right place at the right time with enough dosh in your pocket.
I'd love to see stuff on the other Splits you picked up.

Time to sort this ole bugger out.

Heading to Valla, gotta get this show on the road.
I've started by digging him out of his 5 year long hiding spot and buying the missing parts that I still dont have, not much, but stuff like shocks, indicator assembly, rings and gaskets, Brake components.

Geez, he has been hiding.
I remember when you first posted him up.
Looking forward to seeing you at Valla.

Inch by inch,
I put him back together,
reassembling motor in 2 weeks time,
got new shocks and indicator switch.

first thing will be to work out if the gearbox is ok,
if its not,
then its a straight axle conversion, I have a late type 3 box ready to go and a bay front beam too.
I'd rather leave him stock for the moment, easier for rego etc.

Do you like my sunvisor with attitude?

The flow thru ventilation and custom door locks are sweet.

Slowly fitting the parts I have collected over the years,

Bumper, Seats, Badge.
I realised I have a set of Whitewall Tyres in the shed that will fit nicely.

I have the windscreen rubbers, headlights and tail lights in the back of the kombi, the widscreen in the shed, bought at Valla swap meet in 2004.
Geez, was it that long ago?

The 1600cc motor on the shelf, ready to reassemble,
got the rings, got the gaskets, got a bugspray manifold and weber carby for it. Maybe reassembly next week or soon there after.

Got no time to clean the gutters on the shed, I did it once and it took about 3 weeks to look like that again. A few big gum trees around so they just shed leaves and crap really quickly.

I bought a pair of shocks for the rear, and I will get some fresh ones for the front too as I can afford it.
I bought a new Brake Master Cylinder, and resevoir.
and a new indicator switch as mine was always missing.

I'm still trying to locate in my messy shed the door handles I bought in 2005, I have a totally dissassembled Mazda RX3 in there with fresh paint and I have to be careful not to scratch it or drop anything on it as I hunt for things on the shelves.
I might have to hunt down some more.
I better head to the DSK "for sale" section.

Hi Anthony, the panel looks great. All the best for getting it back on the road.

I was just checking out your last pic, and i was wondering how you get your mushrooms to grow so big?

Cheers, Ben
