The hottest days in WA around Broome 42 degrees. I just cruised at about 90 km and when cooler it sat on 100 to 105 km/h no problem.... OH except when the winds gut up. Was getting 400km from 40 litres pretty consistantly and burning an extra 7 litres on average if it was a windy leg. With 12,000km in distance since leaving Sydney and two oil changes, i would say that i was extremely impressed how well it did in the heat after all the stories i had heard about air cooled engines in the top end... In Summer.

Nearly every roadhouse north of Exmouth the cashier would say i have never seen one of these up here. Was very funny.

Catch up soon for a festive drink. Cheers

Well, it looks like a top time and it also shows it's entirely possible for someone with a lowered splitty designed for normal tarmac roads to drive all the way up north.
Makes me very tempted to try it myself.
BTW, are you running an external oil cooler?

Hey Dazza,

I was showing our bus to a friend today. He is the General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Perth. He said that he saw a Sydney registered VW 'ute' with rubbed out logos parked in the basement of the hotel for a couple of days only just a few months ago.

Hmmmmmm....

That wouldn't have been you, would it?

Anyway, he has an Austin Healey in his collection and amazingly he used to own several splittys and bugs in England years ago. This 'ute' apparently made his day.

Yep, That was while the Air Race was on. It fitted in well at the Hyatt.
