So obviously we got to Darwin, caught up with Cam and Gazza which was good, nice to meet you guys. We had a rock smash a window on the driver's door on the way in to Uluru. Bumped into a nice fella in Alice Springs who put us onto Clinton, nice to meet you mate. Clinton sorted us out with a replacement window and some grease for the front end, much appreciated. We are meeting some nice people as we go, didn't get to catch up with Tom in Alice, maybe next time mate. The didge music on the Uluru video was a fella at Kings Canyon who let me record him playing. Lots of long driving in between stops, had a couple of 500 Km days, which at 80-90 Km/h is a long day. All is going well, seeing some beautiful country, getting heaps of waves and smiles. I reckon this kombi must be the most photographed vehicle in Australia over the last month. Here's a few...

Bravo Dave. It's no point in not making use of this big island of ours, and you are doing it well by the looks of it.
I spotted your roof from a few blocks away coming through Orange a few weeks ago and wondered where that old thing was headed...... Now I'm finding out.
When are you going to add to the 'weird stuff on the roof' photo collection. ? ? ? ( it's the simple stuff that keeps me amused).
Safe travels,
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists! Whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

Headed south from Darwin through Kakadu to Edith Falls, then via Cutta Cutta caves to Daly Waters. We spotted the light blue beast below. It is on a Toyota Hiace chassis with front mounted 2 litre automatic and leaf spring rear end, and lots of add ons, Adelaide people probably know it. Then when we arrived at Daly waters Pub we met Joe who has a few split buses back home, before a 71 Westfalia pulled in to camp next to us.

So before we left home, I thought I would be clever and put in all hard fuel lines in the engine bay, with electric pump mounted underneath the tank. Not so clever, the vibration broke one piece of the hard line and stranded us temporarily in a rest area in the middle of nowhere. A nice fella smoking a pipe helped me out with some oversize fuel line and I dodgied it enough to get to Mt Isa, where I got some new fittings and incorporated some flex line into the mix for a bit of flexibility. Lesson Learnt, flexibility is good.
