single cab - ratty red
after having to sell my panel last year as business was slow i have since sold my 4x4 ute and the GF's bug and managed to scrape together enough coin to replace it with a single cab
many of you would probably remember this sc from ebay - took a bit of a punt and think i did ok. The ute was running and driving but needs a fair bit doing to get it through roadworthy
first pics were 'as purchased' it looks pretty shiny here, i don't remember it being that glossy- maybe thats the QLD sunshine?

The first problem was the 6volt system wasn't charging..
i spent (wasted) a good few hours fiddling with wires and replacing generators - soon got tired of that so went 12volt and switched to alternator
still running the original 1500 sp motor and reduction hub setup - the idea was to get the Sc through roadworthy before customising anything
unfortunately the king pins were rooted so spindles went to get flipped and i dropped the beam and fitted some adjusters while the spindles were away. she's sitting a little better at the front now- has to come up a little for Blue slip i think will be lower soon.
the paint has started to age nicely and isn't such a bright red now - i was going to paint it (not a fan of red cars) but its growing on me now
its just had a coat of penetrol- thats helped the colour dull down too

There is a fair bit of non-original steel in the sc, the prevous owner had replaced the rear tray, treasure chest floor and headboard with flat steel sheet - this doesnt bother me for now as its pretty practical and she's a workhorse - but i'll probably go with original panels in the future (not to mention those rear vents!! )
otherwise the this one is pretty solid - lots of work done before i got her and only a few bits to do/re-do i have to replace one of the crossmembers and handbrake cables - headlight reflectors etc and hopefully we'll be good to get tested

Tell me, is this a high top ute with the upper roof taken off? This would explain the non original vents at rear (easy repair). I have a high top ute and have always wondered how the air passed through the back of the roof into the cabin compartment. Are there any holes or are they filled. Do you have photos of this section?
Thanks
Pete

cheers SP - think i'm going to fit a straight axle kit to this one - will drop it 75mm in one hit - just some fine tuning after that .......SplitPersonality wrote:Nice single cab mate, penetrol has done wonders to transform it into a respectable rat..
As you know it just needs a couple of mates, fat dogs, or splines turned in the back to make the stance street smart
Keep it up, looking goood..
keeping it a little taller till its registered

yes from what i can tell this used to be a high top - there had been some patching and welding done but i still cant figure how the job has been done - and its quite old work i think as the paint has aged heaps- will borrow a better camera and see if i can get some pics for you
