Still want to collect all the repair panels first before breaking out the sawzall/grinder on the barny - with my turbo/efi engine chewing up any spare funds, it may be a while off yet!byronbus wrote:Nice work, love this bus...
Does that mean Al is doing the barndoor next?
Got a big order in with Elton and Ben from Split Parts so hopefully in a few weeks the funky green stuff will start arriving.
Cheers

Well work has started on the 57 i cut the cargo floor out and the cross ribs, cut and installed a bay engine hatch into the rear parcel shelf and straightend it its off to the blasters soon and will be back and new panels gerson will be going in, Al and the boys and i will be putting the new panels in then back to my house so i can straighten the dints in the panels, im going with a willwood hydraulic clutch set up and want to instal a rack and pinion, i'm getting a 901 porsche 5 speed sent over from the states so i'm thinking bout putting that in also i was going to put it in my bug but still deciding on that. thinking about a 2436 cc type 4 now instead of the 2056cc type 4 i want shit loads of torque in it so i can hammer down the highway.

Bomber Belle
Jaeger Sechs Uhr!!!
I had a very similar idea for my DC before she gets a pretty paint job.
Sie hiesse ist "Kurbis", (where are the umlauts?) though.
I think you have a handy start on me. please don't tell me you are going to have a red-head painted on your bus as well. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Belle.
Please keep the pics coming GLHF.
Gunther.

Hi Damo
I noticed your going doing the type 4 route on your bus, I'm thinking of doing the same for my 13, I have an 1800 longblock, that is basically a donor for case and heads. I'm curious about the engine sizes you mentioned, there has been talk that 96mm pistons are no good for a heavy bus and anything larger loses reliability. I asked Jake about the reliability of a 2270 in the 13 and he poo poo'd the idea? Do you have some insider knowledge?

Thats weird about Jake saying a 96mm bore or 2270 is bad for a split, i've read and spoken in detail with him last year about splits and he says their ok cause their less wieght than a baywindow, i have ordered parts for a 2056 type 4 that i was building for Dasdubber for his barny but he doesn't need it now as he's going corvair and the barny is a long way off. So i will be building the 2056 and running it in my bug whilst i build my 2270 then put the 2056 up for sale, this will bolt straight into a split no dramas. The cam and heads for the 2056 with the right induction and exhaust should net close or better than 130hp at the wheels. Heads will be 2.0 914 replicas based on new AMC heads that i supplied. You could even go 1911cc 66x96 using your 1800 these are a wicked little engine i built and installed one in a friends oval and it hauls arse. is an easy build too.

Yeah for sure, i'm going to check out 5 crankcases and 3 cranks next week to add to my collection of core engines if i get these i should have close to 30 type 4 engines in various states some complete, the rest good for core parts if you need any thing let me know, i will be sending about eight cases to the scrap metal man soon they are flogged out but still good for headstuds and case hardware and little neccesary pieces. I've just scored a complete 1800 that i will be dissasembling soon to check its condition and possibly rebuild with a better cam which will make a good cheap conversion engine for a split. I also have the Joe Cali type 4 upright conversion manual if anyone wants to borrow it for the conversion but will ask for a refundable deposit when returned after borrowing. I also just got a set of CB performance 48mm throttle bodies for fuel injection system that i'm planning to run in my bug and possibly transfer to my splittie.
