Got a couple of updates from it all and some pictures.
The bus went down to Kustom Kombi to get a rock n roll bed bolted in before paint, along with rear seat belt mounts for the retractable seat belts. Also all the materials and panels have been ordered through Brad at bus n' bug, which are getting sent down from America at the moment. I choose to go with the silver platinum & mesh platinum combo.
Anyway the bus is currently back at Al's getting the roof repaired and hopefully should be in paint soon! Here are some glorious pictures.
Porta-power needed to be used to straighten the short side panel along the top edge, belt line and gutter line
Some time in its former life someone used the roof as a trampoline which resulted in lots of dents and very loose roof skin
A different attachment was used to force out the swage line without moving the top and bottom
Likewise for the front and rear cargo doors
There is quite a bit of force required to reshape the roof line and side panel - during which you can see how far out of alignment the cargo doors got, plus the roof dents grew even larger until pressure was released - have to be cruel to be kind!
Some cracks and previously weak seams required rewelding and relieving
Looking better than before - now time to try and sort out the multitude of dents in the roof!!

Things are well underway now.
Sorry about the lack of picture uploads, don't really have an excuse.
Quick update the other day I brought a 1600 engine from leon to speed things up a little, and will be going down to see Al again this Saturday to help clean it all up.
I won't clog this post up with too many pictures, but i'll put up the link instead.
The floor has been painted and the inside will be painted any day now.

(Also be sure to check out the page after this one too! -page 18 )
Oh, and in terms of interior, the Rock n roll bed has been installed and I have brought a TMI kit from Brad (Bus n Bug). So that has been chilling out on the sideline waiting to get installed!
To keep consistency with the engine lid (and to avoid the rear hatch original prop slipping and whacking you in the back of the head)....gas struts and brackets were added to the rear hatch and body
Trial fit of wheel
Final prime
Floor painted (base and clear)

Wow, it has been a while! (My fault, not Al’s by any means). Things with the splitty kept getting put on hold due to personal reasons. Any way things are managing to get back on track and got some progress to share with everyone.
First of all I managed to get an old 1600 from Leroy at the end of last year. With the help from Al (a lot of help) we cleaned it up as a temporary engine until a bit later down the track when we get a bigger one!
And lastly the most exciting news out of everything…. This week the old girl finally got a lick of paint!
Custom mix 'Hickling Blau' base coat applied to the bottom half then back masked.....now ready for the tweaked beige grey base coat
Way stoked!!
