Tony, I like the idea, my 2cents worth, get another roof so you have only one weld when you widen it, cut it 1 inch above rain gutter, trim up rain gutter so it sits on outside edge of gates couple of braces accross, sit roof over the rain gutter that still has the 1 inch attached and tack weld inside, seam seal oround roof to rain gutter. this will also lower it a bit because it looks a bit too high. If you get it looking great, take a mould of it and glass them up so all SC owners can grab one. I think they would be lighter as well.

Hey Tonz, great minds think alike (so they say...!)
I have been thinking along the same lines for my '62 sc, except I was looking at the fibreglass lids on the holden utes with the two locking points at the back and tilting upwards from the back.
I like the clean look and they wouldn't add much weight - not sure how to deal with the tie down points, gate latches and the lip giving enough clearance so the side gates could drop down.
As I said, only thinking though as it will be a while before I get to the sc.....
No matter what happens they can't take you out in the street and shoot you......

Struggling to keep this as small a project as possible with minimal welding but not have it look wrong....
As far as weight goes,I drilled out 180 spotwelds tonight (another 100 to go.. ) and once partially seperated from the support frame underneath ; the roof skin is noticeably lighter...
Would consider fibreglass but like the idea of steel for its "old school" look..

If you had an detachable frame attachment which had gas struts in each corner you could get a slip in canvas tent type set up which you could use as a pop up when you take it away
OR do what bob & ash are... buy a bay and add a extra cab
