Looks like you have about 2/3 days per area you are looking at, If no interuptions and no hidden dramas you should be fine but with kombis there are always hidden dramas. Also I would be sandblasting everything one day and painting another so you are not setting up and cleaning up all the time, even tho it may look sensible to focus on beam then gearbox etc..

Joe,

I think the target thing is fine as long as you don't get frustrated if things go wrong and you don't meet your deadline.

The work, effort , commitment that you have shown so far will see you through.....all in good time my friend.
Your very close now, so if it takes 4 weeks instead of 2,
you will still be about a year in front of me and a good few other members..

Do once and do it right is a good mantra.

That said, best of luck with it

Hi Joe
Doing a great job... but we've all come to expect nothing less.
The timeline looks great. It's always good to have your goals defined.
I can help out by making up some lesson plans for you.
Just retired after 33 yrs teaching.
The only problem is that they would all be Maths lessons. :) :) :)
Would love to be closer to lend a hand with the build.
Take care and keep up the great work.

Joe,

Be interesting to see where you are on budget? To save a few dollars and get a better result, I would take the drums and the old shoes to a brake machining shop, and get them machined and the shoes rebonded with new linings and radiused to match the drums. This might be cheaper than buying new shoes and trying to get them working with a brake surface thats been exposed to the elements for god knows how many years.

Also I'd be thinking about putting new seals in the reduction boxes, and possibly new bearings. Reduction boxes are notorious for leaking and better you do it all now than when you have new/relined shoes and painted up backing plates, because if you get gearbox oil on those linings they are cactus and will need rebonding/replacing

Cheers

Great advice Steve

All I can say is thank god we agreed that tools were not part of it
I'll do up a new tally on the budget soon.

I bought the shoes a while ago with the wheel cylinders.
But will certainly do the seals, good timing as I'm making an order now for transmission mounts etc.

Thanks guys

Another question regarding the transmission.
I was thinking of giving it a good clean and then spraying it silver.
Good or bad idea?

Oh and is it OK to sandblast the transmission?

should be fine to blast as long as the boots are covered over and all holes covered over really well

i mean shit i took mine to car lovers with a carton of presure pack degreasers (it was very late) and gernied it for a good few times, what a mess that made.

as for paint, i myself not a fan, with the heat and all it seems to chip of or fade.they look pritty good all cleaned up anyway.

I'm also not a fan of painting the gearbox, but if I was going to do it I would paint it semi-gloss black, put some new hardware on, and use a dremel or similar to polish the ribs similar to this one:-

Any suggestions on where I should shop for fastest delivery of the following?
Shock absorbers
Axel boots
Transmission mounts
reduction box seals
