now ive done a mischief.
ive found a 1960 40hp stale air bus engine with correct air filter for the old girl, only a couple of months difference with the engine an ute, so i just need to collect the engine, give it the once over, (on the engine stand this time not in the car), pull the bug engine out an install the correct one for it.
this is the only pic i have of it so far. but the numbers are closer to the cars build. (thanks a bucketload to Chris with the engines)
but where does the preheat tube go to? (indicated by arrow) can anyone tell me? i know it goes through the back tinware...to where? i know as soon as i find out ill be like oh, im an idiot. haha
and gettin rid of the chrome hubcaps for some og ratty commercials. look through my collection of bits an found 2 sets of them. the buckled ones will go onto the drivers side so it looks a bit more like its been dropped on its side. wicked..
the wiring is doing my head in, some power to places an none to others...

Dion,
When I pulled the heads off to put new cylinder head sealing copper rings in my 36hp I just used a cut up piece of galvanised shelving with a vice grip to get the cylinder rings back in. Did the trick!
Be good to get it going under its own steam!
And No a 356 engine won't fit straight in there
Cheers
Steve

shitty phone pics, but better than none.
bit more work 2day, replaced rings an seals, an got the barrels an pistons back on, then pulled 2 studs....only a little set back.
so fixed them up and all good to go.
bit of high pressure cleaning, still needs a good degreasing, but more 2moro..
more again 2moro, an hopefully have this thing runnin an ready to go in.

then started
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZK39Pk0 ... e=youtu.be
then moved to the back..
an real ute bar put on, an valance an ready for fuel...
filled with fual an noticed a slight leak, pulled the tank an this is what i found.
shit.. i have bay tanks, but are rusted as well, an another splitty one with a shit vdo tank sender grafted into it that WILL leak.. but might have to do for now.
