No resto thread as all that work was done in the states prior to me taking ownership.

Originally bought the dc for the wife but don't want to part with it so am looking for a convertible Karmen Ghia to keep her happy.

Real nice looking bus there. Are you going to get it regoed before suspension/steering mods? After reading a few threads there seems (maybe just me) to be some confusion re: rego from one jurisdiction to another. Standardisation is a word that crops up a bit, & I'm a bit concerned about making mods pre rego only to find I can't get a sticker.
Obviously favourable engineering reports are needed. Is there need for genuine concern?

Won't be getting it rego'd before the mods for a few reasons.
At the moment there is about 180 degrees of free play in the steering box, the reduction hubs are leaking like a tap and the brakes are completely shot (but the body is in fantastic shape). Would rather not spend to fix these issues only to throw them out.
Also to have it insured (with confidence) I would rather have the mods engineered and noted by the insurance company.
So........ just waiting on the lottery win so we can get started.

Have already pencilled the build plan for a KG vert with Mendeola double wishbone front, and coil over rear suspension, air con, leather, GPS, no leaky safaris etc....basically a modern car wrapped in an old style body.
Just waiting for the right customer to come along so I can build it
New shape new beetle would be cool though, as long as you can keep your lovely wife happy and still hang onto your DC then you're doing well!

Well something interesting happened on the weekend.
Had an offer to buy my steel rims from another dual cab owner so made me get happening and purchased the new wheels. Transforms the look dramatically, now I just need to get it about 6 inches lower (red9 should do this!)
I put 17inch rims on the van with 215/45"s on the rear and 205/40"s on the front which in hindsight I probably wouldn't do again. Unless I tub the front I can't get any lower
Now to get started on the engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, interior.............etc...........etc..................
PS: am looking to sell front and rear bars if anyones interested $150 each

Yeah yeah I know, I would love to have it dragging it's arse on the ground but I also want to be able to drive it.
Have the creative rack & pinion in the van and would struggle to have a steering box set-up (especially this one with 180 degrees free play).
Think the red9 will be a good compromise of ride,ride height, brakes and steering
