'57 Kombi - (No Name Yet)

Post by kombideeks »

Hi all,
first post on DSK, just picked up a '57 komibi, only 11 km's from home!
Looked forlorn parked in a paddock, but a bit of vision and it will be OK.
Best of all, it was FREE. Yep a 1957 kombi for free.
A great full length roof rack, a cooldrive sun visor and not as much rust as I thought it might have.
It has been at home now for 3 weeks, I removed the 1970's camper setup, it was full of mice and spiders and the wood had rotted, but it had protected the inetrior to a certain degree.
Rust Repair!!!!
Nose cone, dog legs and cab floor (no surprise) only a few small holes in the cargo floor, looks pretty good really.
Drivers door at the bottom, passenger door has no rust, front cargo door has no rust, rear cargo door about 150 mm of rust. Outriggers and jack points are stuffed along with the two pieces between the chassis rails.
under the front seat also has rust issues, but not terminal.
Engine cover has a couple of rust holes in the frame but not the skin and the rear hatch is solid, anly a 50 mm piece of frame to be replaced.
Engine is stuffed, it was buggered 20 years ago, do don't expect much from it, but have a 1300 beetle engine to go in.
Anyway, once I work out how to load photo's I will put some up.
Looking for the back of the front seat, it is missing.

Good one. Looking forward to more progress photos...
My Dad's Kombi circa 1967 at Taronga Zoo. I'm the light weight with the skinny legs, my older brother is doing the roof jump!

Yeah I know, I have the feeling the guy saw me coming!

Pretty happy with it actually, it sits nicely next to my '74 poptop.

I have heard of a double cab split ute that is abot 30 km's from home, definately following up that one as well.
