Update - cargo doors and I-beams

Post by thebear »

Now that the new chassis is taking shape, time to trail fit the cargo doors. Some work needed to get the spacing right.

Doors hung to check gaps.

Update - prep for the blaster

Post by thebear »

Hi, a few more pics before Manfred was loaded on the flatbed and headed off to the blaster.

Both rear quarters had a little bit of rust

Both corners were removed to allow the blasting to reach inside to neutralise the rust. The pieces have been kept and will be repaired and replaced.

Update - off to the blaster

Post by thebear »

Finally.... Getting loaded onto the truck and ready for blasting. Taped areas to minimise affect on original panels.

Hopefully the other green panels will arrive soon so the welding can be finished.

Back from the blaster - LHS front door

Post by thebear »

Geez, time has got away from me a bit. A month since the last post. Busy at work (election time for public servants is always a big deal) and the start of footy season has been a distraction. So where are we at?

Well, just because i've been a slack ass and not posted doesn't mean nothing has been happening at the Haus. The huge job that is the body work continues.

First up the LHS door. A decent replacement couldn't be found so on with the repairs.

Back from the blaster

Although a good sand blast makes repairs easy, it also reveals lots of unknowns. Heaps of little repairs as a result but underside nice and clean.

Old seatbelt mounts needed work. To be filled with new mounts out in.

Dog leg repair

Post by thebear »

LHS dog leg was a keeper so rust repairs required.

Good quality of repairs..
The cargo area reminds me of a house reno when you have the stumps and bearers replaced before rebuilding on top...

A good resto starts with solid foundations..

Would you have had to porta-power the cargo door opening if you had'nt already welded below doors on chassis..?
Wanted..Barny bits or 60's Supercharger other than Judson

Hey Tonz, B-pillar lower is pretty much fixed in its position.....lower C-pillar (below hinge of rear cargo door) wasn't welded to inner sill when the porta powering was done. If it was done after the C-pillar base was welded it would just bend the door aperture, hence why lower outer sill wasn't welded in either until the gaps were tweaked.
cheers

Underside

Hi
A few more shots of the underside.

Do not adjust your set. Apparently its easier to weld if you turn your car on its side.

Long sill repair

Post by thebear »

Hi
The work is progressing nicely with the DAS boys getting through the serious welding and repair jobs. Long side sill needed replacement (who's doesn't?) so added to the green. Still on target for Valla which will be our furst road trip and hopefully where Manfred makes his debut.

Rear chassis and lower panels

Post by thebear »

As the before shots showed, the bottom 8 inches was non existent including rusted out chassis rails which have now been replaced. Same goes for the rear end with both lower rear quarters needing replacement. Rear chassis sections also needed doing.

Rear chassis in a bad way
