No Probs Ian, I guess we both learnt something new.
If I ignore about a quarter of what this guy say's, maybe I will come out with abit more knowledge and some basic skills that may help me to have a go at the welding component of the resto! :)
I'll give it a red hot go anyways!

Now I know where I've been going wrong..

Ive been arc welding like a porn queen wanking herself...
Rapidly side to side through a small arc..
Pardon the pun

Occasionally I've thought their actions remind me of 6v wipers with a 12volt supply...
Frantic...

Can your welding teacher lay a decent weld? Might be better just to watch what he does rather than listen to his dribble. Once you get the basics of Tig/Mig/Oxy it's just knowing how to set up and practice, practice and more practice.

I wasn't talking about welding ...

Oh well, still good to know.

I hate welding, really hate it but when I was taught the old boy told me that when welding it should sound like a t shirt being ripped...thats the sign of right speed etc etc .

Think wanking and ripping t shirts and it's a good job..

Yes the sound is part of the deal, with mig anyhoo. I think a few have been practicing with the wrong stick. I can't talk, I don't mind wearing the glasses it's the shaving palms I dislike. :?

Slow Ruby Resto!

Post by KombiKarmaDel »

With all good intentions, I thought I would get stuck straight into the resto, a couple of welding lessons later and life as usual has gone off on a different tangent for abit.... Won't bore anyone with specifics, but I now have a perminant garage site for my Ruby so I can now proceed albeit slowly. With family needs comming first I decided to do the grown up thing & purchase a family home for us all, attached to the perminant shed to house Ruby in of course :) .. So now that Winter has set in, and the rain continuisouly falls, resto on my train carriage on our land being put under wraps/tarps until Spring, I am now sitting each night after work reading my VW manuals in front of my Rayburn Wood Stove, & gathering as much info on DSK as I can absorb.. Thanks once again for such a fantstic site, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around :) Cheers - Del
