After taking heaps of measurements, I finally welded in my lower inner front panel. Prior to doing this I took the opportunity to do a steering box raise. it's pretty much at floor level which will require the floor to be raised to clear the pitman arm/ball-joint (not a job for the purists).
Image
used a bevel gauge to get the angle the same for both cuts.

view from the right hand side.
Image
gusseted from the top, that section of the floor was cactus any way so it was handy to cut it out.

welded in top and bottom.

A tight box would be nice Dion, mines not too bad hahaha. I'm just hoping someone comes up with a cheap rebuild kit sometime. Anyway I moved out of the workshop I was in, and back in the little shed. heres a few pics

welded in a new piece for the bulkhead, still gotta do the outer sections. Did a bit of mocking up and measuring.
Image
made up and welded in a new section for the rear most top-hat section (Has the closed off bottom section)

Image
Welded a bit of old chair leg onto my shift rod to replace the section I mangled trying to get it off.

Iv'e done a little more on my bus lately, pretty stoked really, by my maths I should have bus finished for my 90th birthday.
got the left hand side of the bulkead welded in. Welded in the front centre crossmember and the LHF outrigger welded in.
Image

Image
This is handmade outrigger in 2mm steel (like the tophat) you can see on the end where I got my measurements a bit wrong and had to section an re-weld it finish up nicely under inner rocker panel.

I've got my IRS happening as well. I wasn't worried about cutting out the original frame horns as one was pretty rusty and had a cut n join repair and a piece of rio tacked along the top?? the other was rusty an full of oil and dirt.
Image
so... I cut them out
Image
mocked up the new legs with the gearbox mount and some G clamps.
Image
welded in and Primed.
Image
bolted up the control arms an clearanced the subframe.

nick62 wrote:My bus is this colour, and the roof was also painted white. I have a 62, this is a GREAT colour! Looks from the dash shot you do not have a fuel gauge? I think they started to fit gauges and drop the reserve tap in 62. What tail light setup do you have? Double round lights were not on 62-they went to the "oval" shape that continued through to round 71-72. wouldnt be hard to reference the chassis no. great bus!
My guess is June '61 off the Samba site. Does it have the twin tailights? Mine's March '61 with the twins.
Cheers, Roo
