Seats are a snap.
TMI does covers & pads.
Looks great.
The access hatch isn't as dumb as you think though.
If the hole is already there seriously consider welding in a hatch section from a Bay or even a Type 3.
Will look standard & be handy.

Yes, I suppose having access from above is easier for servicing the motor (ala late Bay Window). Will look into that when it gets here....

I'm pretty sure Al did it on the red/white supercharged EFI 11-window he built.
It's like IRS and balljoint, disc brakes, high vents, etc.....a VW factory design improvement in the next model.
I know it's not as popular but as I said before, if the cut is there, well, may as well take the initiative and not have the same hassles the rest of us do trying to see behind the motor without a hoist!
I'm actually a little puzzled as to why it isn't done more often.
No one shows off the beautiful paint on their engine shelf.
In fact almost all of us have mats or cushions there for sound insulation or rock'n'roll beds or both.
It's almost always out of sight, not like other mods, and it's really practical.

What I meant was that funds to IRS, adjusters, type 3 tranny and pay someone to do it, aren't there right now. Might as well throw in a 2007cc donk...

If its any consolation, I've been driving my 65 split with RGB's for the last 12 years, 8 of which have been as a daily driver with no drama's. They are a bit noisy on the freeway, but around town they are fine. I have the later big nut 46mm RGB's, rather than the earlier 36mm ones, but I also have a 55 ute I was driving daily with a crash box and it was manageable in Sydney traffic.

Thanks Steve - good to hear from someone who has driven with OG tranny & RGB's as a daily driver.

It can't be that bad, more than half the Californian splittys out there are kept stock standard.....

OK, she has been picked up and the most worrying part of the whole exercise has begun - being driven 700 k's on a car carrier to the shipper. It got on safely - just, will it get off safely??
The driver couldn't find reverse and started driving it on with one wheel nearly off the track

My mate Jeremy told him to stop and he got in and drove it up! Just hope the driver can reverse it off safely at the other end!!

The driver will pick up other loads and then it will be delivered to Orange, CA (just near the port of Long Beach) on Monday or Tuesday - this is the worst part! Once it arrives at the shipper's depot I can breath a sigh of relief. Then it's just into a container and off to Oz.....

She was delivered safely to Long Beach and just got news they loaded her yesterday......

The ship (supposedly) is direct to Newcastle and takes about 28 days to cross the Pacific. So, early June arrival! Can't freakin' wait.....
