Front floor and rear wheel wells

Post by thebear »

Headed down to see Al and Steve and check out the progress last week. Very excited. Lots happening at the DAS workshop with a full house of restos in the sheds providing lots of inspiration. Gotta say the pro street Barny SC looks tops in the flesh. Great rig.

Hanging out with the local crew last Sunday also makes you want to get a bus on the road. The welding work is nearing completion especially the big jobs. Front floors are being cut and welded and dog lgs as well as the newly arrived Gerson rear cargo floor which should be welded in very soon.

Here are some pics. Enjoy.

Front nose section

Post by thebear »

Yeah they sure do D-Train. Top fellas, quality work. Still on track for Valla and planning an extended road trip into NSW and back through the Hunter. Should be a good first outing...

Rear floor

Post by thebear »

You can see the original colour where the vw emblem was and the headlight buckets. The plan is to remove the dodgy aqua 80's paint and restore as much of the original Sea Blu patina as possible. Having had some success with the rear hatch, i will give the rest of the van a go before the colour matching and painting of the new bits takes place.

Update - welding almost complete

Post by thebear »

Hi, been a little while since an update but only due to my slackness not the lack of effort from the DRH team. So this is where its at. All the major welding is complete including front and rear floors and little bits and pieces. The underside has been blasted in stone guard and the refitting of driveline has started.
The project is on track for Valla where Manfred will make his debut outing. I can't wait to get it on the road.
As has been detailed in another thread, we have decided to run the latest Red9 front and Red9 rear. Pending compliance and rego in the next few months, i believe this will be the first van in Aust with both Red9 set ups. We gave a lot of thought as to what driveline we would run and with some help from Al at DAS it was decided to go the Red9 front and rear. Valla seems the perfect place to show it all off.
So the driveline will look something like this:

Red9 front and Red9 rear
4 wheel discs
1915 with twin 40's (about 100hp)
Rancho 3.88 box
Chrome Empi 5
Not sure of the seating combo yet.

Thanks again to Al and Steve and DRH and DRP.
Hope you like the pics.
