My 1962 11 Window Split
Hey guys.
I've had a few requests for photos of my new kombi, so here they are.
I've been on the hunt for around 6 months now and have received a lot of tips and help from DSKers in that time. Very thankful to everyone who's lent a hand.
I bought this 1963 11 window off DSK member Paul Willans last week and it is scheduled to arrive next tuesday.
Sorry that the photos aren't high resolution, but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to take any of my own photos just yet.
At some stage in the future this bus will likely undergo a full re-spray, get safaris all round and a fully re-trimmed interior, however not sure on exactly when all this will happen.
For now, this car will (maybe) be my daily drive. I'll drive her around for a good month before I make the decision to sell my current daily driver.
For those interested, here's a bit of info about the bus:
1. Motor is a Pobjoy steroid 1916 cc (build number 1486). Runs twin Weber 44idf's with 044 heads. Has remote oil cooler and filter fitted.
2. Type 3 gearbox.
3. Front end is a vintage VW narrowed/lowered adjustable beam.
4. Aftermarket short throw shifter.
5. All new brake lines and master cylinder.
6. Brand new porsche fuchs and tyres
7. Samba trim.
8. New rubbers all round.
9. Some VERY minor rust in the cargo door sill and some extremely small pin holes in the front floor which aren't even noticeable. The underside of the chassis is perfect with no rust. No rust in the gutters or any of the usual places.
10. Very straight body with next-to no dents.
11. The paint is a little rough and will appreciate a re-spray at some point in the future.
12. Interior is in very good condition, all carpeted and clean.
13. Has the original middle seat.
Anyway, here's the photos guys, let us know what you think.
Cheers,
Braden

Hey guys.
Just an update on the split.
I've had a bit of bad luck with the engine unfortunately. The engine is dead and so am in the process of organising to get it rebuilt.
I'm looking at about $4k - $4.5k to get it back to how it would have been originally.
On top of this, im organising to get discs installed on the front, a new exhaust will be made for the rear and heater boxes will be installed. I'm also replacing some clutch components as some of the parts that were installed weren't compatible with the gearbox.
I look forward to getting this back on the road in the next month or so.
I'll let you know how it all goes.
Braden.

Also, some other things I have done in the last few weeks:
1. I went to the bumper with a can of gloss white spray paint (as a short term tidy-up). It came up a treat. See below.
2. I have purchased a rear seat which I will be collecting this weekend.
3. I removed the seat cover from the middle seat and the upholstery is in extremely good condition. I will try and upload a photo of it in a couple of weeks when i've got the car back.
4. I replaced the ignition barrel. The one previously installed was just a universal ignition switch so i replaced it with the same one.
5. I replaced the speedo as the one installed had a broken needle and also got the speedo cable working again
6. Got keys cut to suit the door locks.
Can't wait to actually take it for a drive. Still haven't had the chance due to the engine troubles.

The engine was running like shit when I first checked out the car and Paul had mentioned that he had never had it running right since he bought it.
Thinking this was just a Carby-tune issue, I dropped it off with Mark Holyoak at "Volkswagens by Imported" in Springvale when I finally got it back to Melbourne.
After a day, Mark called me and said that the engine troubles were caused by much more than a carby-tuning issue, the engine was very low on compression and in very bad condition, needing at least a partial re-build.
Booked it in to get the partial re-build with a quote of around $3k.
Once Mark had spent a day stripping the engine down, he called me and basically said that the engine was F*%&@D and it was a lot worse than he had thought.
I'm going in to see him this morning and work out what has gone so wrong with this engine and how much $$ i'll need to throw at it to get it right. I'll give you guys an update later today letting you know exactly what is soooo F&*%#D with the engine.
Over the phone, Mark suggested it would probably be around $4-4.5k for all the engine work.
It's all a bit unfortunate, and hoping to get it all resolved in the coming weeks. I'll let you know a bit more info later, and see what you guys reckon.
Cheers,
Braden
