Cool bus. Great to see an old girl out and about.
It is a bit high though... Love the tuff rear bumper.

Ha! Thanks guys. Yeah, I definitely don't mind lower buses, but I really like getting this guy out camping and on some dirt roads and stuff...can't do that well when you're low.

Maybe if I get that Aussie panel I'm dreaming of...I'll get that one low.

Talk about digging one up from the past...done a bit of work to the bus and been on some wicked adventures too...here's just a sample:

Made Coffee Bag door panels:

Got one of those slow moving vehicle magnets:

Fitted a Bice bumper (so hardcore and I love the patina!):
Image

And most importantly, I made it on the 2008 Shasta Snow Trip (www.shastasnowtrip.com and see my YouTube for heaps of videos):

And then once I got back from Shasta, I decided to add some serious light to the roofrack!

Back Once Again!

Hey fellas! It's been, well, way too long and I felt it was more than time to get back onto the DSK boards.

Still have the same camper...ten years on now since I first bought it...and I've now done that Shasta Snow Trip 4 times.

Image

I've also become a dad and equipped the bus to carry a carseat all safe-like. Heck, my little lad was able to say "bus" before "daddy."

Image

I've done lots of little things to the bus since I was here last. Most notably replaced the entire front of the bus (which was damaged and fiberglassed in places) with the nose and dash from a '65 single cab, upgraded to disc brakes up front, and had my friend build a custom gauge cluster.

Image

But lately I've really had a bug in my ear wanting an Aussie bus with upper vents and a roo bar. Honestly, probably a bit of a pipe dream given the market these days, but at least I can get my fix of those here.

Thanks! This year's Shasta adventure really hammered the bus in places...in particular, I nailed a river rock hard enough to push the passenger side of the bumper up, blocking that door from opening! So I spent half the trip having to shove it down so my co-pilot could get out. Then we borrowed a C-clamp from a friend and locked it down...it's still there!

After the trip, I was checking over the engine before heading back to work and found a dent in my muffler similar to that on the bumper! Oi!

Not specifically as part of the trip, but I know some teams who come out from the east head through the Tahoe area.

Well, got the clapped out starter replaced last weekend with the help of a friend (old starter had a ton of play in it) and then proceeded to drive it around a bit to exercise the charging system with the hopes of driving it to work today.

Yeah...coming back from a longer run yesterday, I got some hesitation headed up over a pass and could tell right away it was valves (ask me how I know...lol). Got home okay, parked it, checked my service intervals app on my phone and it somehow neglected to tell me that I was nearly 1000 miles overdue for a valve adjustment. Typically, not a huge deal, but my daily commute is about 60 miles total and I cross two large hills each way. So home it sits one more day while I wait to tweak the valves between loads of laundry tonight.

Last weekend I set out to quickly install a set of euro tail lights I sourced recently. Originals, I think. Still had the part number sticker on it.

Plan was to get them in and just rely on the dual filament bulb for all the indicating until I could run the extra wire later this week.

Reckoned it would be out with the old, in with the new, bam, bam, all in a day's work.

Yeah, it was a completely frustrating as experience! But I'm setting aside some driveway time tomorrow to get it all sussed.

Eeeeek! It was a bit scary to do this to Taylor's daily driver, but we made it through it!

And with minimal injuries! I managed to come up too quickly and not alertly enough and catch the bridge of my nose on the center pillar with some very sharp metal exposed. Blessedly did not need a hospital visit over it.

But this project was also a big lesson in running the wires. That part alone was a 3-day project for me!
