I guess you can make your final judgement when you're driving each day.
It's worth considering how much a 2.5 litre 150hp aircooled motor would've cost you and it's longevity and ease of servicing.
How many kays are there on that motor?
Was the unit/front clip/etc pricey?
Current price for a 2.4litre stroker is in the realms well over 7k IIRC and the life on that sort of motor is hard to estimate.
Has the Subie convo cost you that much already?
Subie motors kept serviced seem to last 300,000+ kms.

I actually got a bit over excited and bought that motor a couple of years ago.

It's a 2006 engine and had 38000ks. Cost me $2800 delivered. But if known I wouldn't of got the 2006 because of all the dramas I had with the electrics so I had to then go and buy a 2001 manifold/harness etc which cost me another $1000

The radiator cost me about a grand and then all the other little bits and piece and time spent on it I choose not to add up.

Wow, no wonder you jumped at the chance.
Only 38k on the clock!
Look after it and it should run for decades.
And you won't have all the potential cooling issues you might have from a really big aircooled motor.
Have you still got the aircon pump on there?
I'd be trying to get that going if I could.
That would cost you a mint with an aircooled motor too.
But even at $4800 with peripherals (say another grand) you're doing well.
Of course, I say that not having forked out the money myself.
What size motor is the '56 running?

Yeah yr right in the long run it will certainly pay off.

I've got Tuesday Wednesday off this week so dedicating both days and the it should be ready for the exhaust and then a few tidy ups and done.

Ahh the other money box, the 56 has a 1600 twin.

May have got my hands on an early bettle so could be another on the go soon

Mmmm, exhaust........I trust you'll be fitting something with a nice throaty quality.
And an early Beetle, eh?
I trust we'll see a post in the "Member's Other Rides" section.
You really do have great taste in transport.

I'm chasing another early Beetle too but it's hard a hard life so I suspect it will remain the paddock basher it is now or become a parts car..........or both if I can manage it!
But hey, maybe something can be done with it.
Not going to tease us are you.........year? colour? etc?
