so been bored i got into some fiddly things,
old set of barrels an pistons

good old bbq cleaner at it again
Image

an presto
Image
not 100% but heaps better an no carbon

an onto the barrels, right not done, left done..
Image

rings cleaned
Image

done all 4
Image

now to dry them off
Image
dinners ready!!

now oil up everything
Image

do the rings, thanks henry for the ring compressor!!!
Image
checked gaps an all were within specs.. which was good for old ones thats for sure

all 4 done
Image
rings are tight but not too tight, dont know if they will be that good until its together an check it all again, but not a big job to change rings anyway.. all boxed up safe an sound till needed.
still have to figure out the rest of the engine now

Back in the olden days they used to think it was important to keep everything in it's original spot. Keeping all the pistons numbered and rings together with original pistons.
I have never worried too much about it as long as the stuff was in tolerance, you would think if you hone the bores before putting all that stuff back together it would bed in.
Did you keep each piston assembly intact or just bungum all in together?
The older I get the better I used to be

I know that old wives tale too, thy been sittin for a little while an I forgot which goes with what, so willy nilly they went in, it's old rings an if they don't work when I run the engine, it's not a big deal to swap them over. Staggered them all too so hopefully they do the job for a little anyway.
