Re: Néw member with new splitty project
Hi guys
Things have been pretty busy of late and I have got a heap done to the bus.
The body is stripped of door handles, glass, rubbers and the front panel cut away.
I'm still un decided if to buy a welder and have a crack my self or just admit defeat and lack of knowledge etc
And have it done for me? Also still un decided to leave it as a rat or new paint etc I don't think funds will allow me to
Do the latter...
The engine is out and stripped now I know its a gower, all tin is off and ready for power coating
and I have done a general de grease and clean. I will put on new parts once its nearly ready to go back in
Like new oil cooler dizzy etc.
Ill update pics soon... I'm also looking for a bay fuel tank of anyone is selling one?
Danny

Re: Néw member with new splitty project
So time for an update.
Decided to keep it very ratty and only replace rotten metal. Found myself a great guy who has been panel beating for many years and loves vdubs! bonus. So im hoping to get it to Nimbin which will be a stretch. Things I have completed so far.
Engine our and dress up with new plugs, leads, clean tin, fuel hose, fuel filter , oil cooler etc
New brakes
New inner valance , A pillars, lower nose cone welded on
Rear holes in the body have been welded and skimmed
Safaris fitted
All new rubbers
new tyres
New master cylinder
Holes welded and skimmed in long sill
electrics reinstalled and all working
Last few things needed will be ratty look paint on the lower body, clutch cable and little bits of welding her and there. When I stripped the old girl back considering it had been sat in the paddock for 5 or so years it surprisingly didn't have that much rust ! I will post all the pics I have .
Special thanks to Rodz, Tarin and Tin bits for all the help advise and spare parts!

I know but this is the size of a small fishing pond when I stop, looks to be coming from between engine and gearbox.maxpwr wrote:Oil leak? wow thats unusual you sure its a VW?

Yeh , pop the engine out to fix it, on the other hand, if you keep driving it the leak will stop. Then the car.
Better to get massive leaks sorted from drives around the block Danny. It would be a bloody miracle if everything shifted sweetly and didn't leak oil.
Have you got someone to help?

Re: Néw member with new splitty project
Will do some after work each day and plod along. To do the rear main do I need to take the flywheel off or is it easy got to ? I need the engine out anyway to fit the rear tin. Still might be a go but depends on how much I get done. If your up this way mate I have your cold beer waiting !067DUB wrote:Yeh , pop the engine out to fix it, on the other hand, if you keep driving it the leak will stop. Then the car.

Remove the flywheel . Yup.
I won't be able to help this week, wish I could live closer to your part of the world!
There are plenty of good threads on the Samba to help with alignment and little issues you might find.
Go hard man!!
