62 Iceream Van project
So its been a few years without a bus, but finally i have a bus again.
Its pretty unique, it needs a bit of work but appears to be pretty dry (ill know more once i strip it back).
Its a 62 panel - hightop conversion with a sales window. Still rego'd which is great, hoping to get it back on the road within a year fingers crossed.
after i bought the bus i found out a friends father owned the bus in the late 80s running a hard scoop 'Streets' icecream van.
Its a classic photo posted below.
Im unsure if it will be selling icecream or coffee in the future but pretty stoked with the bus and cant wait to get started.
It does need some parts to finish it of, if anyone has any they would like to sell please let me know.
-front and rear bumpers
-front headlights
-rear taillights for a 62
-a solution to the seating - as the only access to the serving window is from the front i need to create walk thru front seats. any ideas if i need to track down splitty walk thru seats or if anyone has created a walk thru with bay model seats?
Cheers guys,
Donny

Awesomely interesting
would look great slamed with a cyclops light moulded into your roof. As far as making it walk through, from what I can gather you will need to install belly pans to strengthen it... others will confirm/deny.
Keep us posted on your progress. Would love to see your completed visions.
Take care

No pans on a walk through, only roof cuts. I would imagine a conversion would be a big job, but my god they are bloody practical.

Hey guys, yeah it should be a neat project. It's definitely the same bus but in the old photo a equipment vent was cut in. Some time in the last 20 years the vent was put back in. It has the same rego as the old bus and everything.
Has anyone done the hoop frame and swivel chair? I'd like to see it.
Saw a swivel chair set up on the samba and thought it would be perfect

That sucker is brilliant. Love it!
Definitely look into some tasteful reinforcements. I'm sure that body could easily see some flex during use.
And with that speaker out the front, the bus almost seems more suited to sit a little lower and bump tunes at shows. And sell snacks and whatnot, sure!

As it has a fairly significant roof cut and walk through conversion cut it would need belly pans.067DUB wrote:No pans on a walk through, only roof cuts. I would imagine a conversion would be a big job, but my god they are bloody practical.
Is the high top fiberglass?

Re: 62 Iceream Van project
Yes it's a fibreglass top, I will look at putting pans on if I can get my hands on them.
I don't think it has ever had any but it certainly couldn't hurt.
I'm very keen on putting some swivels in to maximise space. Have been doing some research but not much out there for aftermarket and very hard to get original.
Thanks for the icecream van pic I have found a couple myself, trying to get some ideas of colours even though there's a along road before paint.
Cheers for the input guys hoping to get cracking in October
Cheers
