Hi Tonz,
From my experience with this particular spot welder they are a fantastic help, they do an exceptionally neat job. It doesn't generate as much heat as a mig, so there is a much lower risk of distorting or buckling the metal. We've found the welds to be extremely strong and attractive looking. Not sure how much this particular one cost as it was a gift from my Mrs, but I've seen them for around $1000. The worst thing is you've got to be able to access both sides of the metal, which unfortunately makes it impossible to use everywhere, but with the adjustable arms you can get to most places.
I used this spot welder to repair the back panel between the engine bay and the mudguard of my 1953-54 bug which was wrecked during a pre-resto accident. I couldn't fault it's performance, there an old school machine, but perform a valuable function.

Some more pictures of the progress, we're satisfied that there is no more disguised RUST left so now it's a matter of cosmetic surgery rather than transplants.
