Byronbus, Rocky bought the Blue 67 Splitty from me with the VW067 plates which was also his first Splitty, but I cannot remember who he sold it to afterwards. He did a great job on that 54 Two tone Oval also.
Heres some more pics of my first Splitty the Blue 67 my 3rd Kombi complete with the original Trading Post add for $600 from Roseville NSW in 1990..I actually got it for $450 unbelievable....
I had 2 Bays previous to this a 73 ex pmg microbus my first Kombi & a 77 camper my 2nd..

Here's a great pic I took of Rocky sitting down at Volksday '92 on the NSW south coast sitting with the Splits...Love the rough "TYPE 2 Pre 68" sign on the timber post Rockys next to..
My 61 Yellow Dual Cab & 61 Deluxe are parked at the end...
Pic of my DC & Deluxe at our workshop in Lidcombe..
Here's a pic of Rocky's '55 Ute with Andrew Dodd looking on & my '61 Deluxe park behind at Mittagong on an Australian Split Window Kombi Klub run to Kangaroo Valley in 1993..
Another pic showing all the buses, I had sold my Yellow Dual Cab by this time to Mark Watson another good old VW friend..my ex Army Kombi was 4th from the end....
enjoy...
Cheers Barney

Wonder what happened to rockys 55, sold so cheap... I remember i got my 1st splitty, a 67 in around 1992/93, swapped a subaru leonie with a blown head gasket for it...
The funny thing is, i sold it to the brother of the guy who owned your old yellow dc in frenches forrest...

Mr Dodd hasn't changed at all..top bloke...
Small world Byronbus
Heres a pic of my first Kombi a 1973 ex PMG Microbus
Bought in February 1987......theres a good story to this one here goes...
February 1987
My First Kombi was a 1973 ex PMG 9 seater microbus.
I was a 3rd year apprentice Motor Mechanic in 1987 at my families mechanical workshop at APB Automotive Engineers 124 Bombay Street, Lidcombe NSW.
It was about 4pm one stinking hot Friday afternoon in February & a fella walks into the workshop & said his car was broken down in the middle of Parramatta Rd, so I walked a short distance with him out to Parramatta Rd & sure enough there it was a bloody red Kombi bleeding all over Parramatta Rd, After we managed to stop the peak hour traffic which was backed up for a mile, I jumped in & with a slight downhill grade the Kombi rolled into Bombay St, then we pushed it into the workshop, were it stayed for the weekend.
Monday morning I put it up on the hoist & found a conrod through the block, I advised the owner who then requested a quote to repair it, it came to $1200 at the time but he could not afford to fix it & asked did I want it & said it's still got a few months rego left on it ..... I was into RX3 Rotaries & HQ GTS Monaro's at the time..... I said mate I will pay you around what the rego would cost you, I pulled the rego papers out of the glove box that had no lid (like most of them I found out later) $290 it said, so we shook hands at $300 & I was a Kombi Owner.......but this was only the start....
cheers..
