WHYyyyy??? Because!! Rusty Double Cab!
I'm stupid for buying this, but I love the rusty piles of junk that no one wants.
Early Mango door on a late bus? Genius fitment!
Sweet doglegs! 2 for the price of one!
Should've walked away...
Solid!!
Frame is solid, really!!
THE HORROR! I mean, I love this shit.

Yeah, that's crusty, but the double cab is the new 23/21 window! Those prices out there are sheer madness!

Cut away Double! Actually doesn't look too bad now.
Lil bit of frame rust.
Why didn't VW make the gates like this? They rust so bad in this area. It was full of bondo, fiberglass, mesh, wood, and of course rust.

Worked on the frame rails so it's not so holy.
More work needed but it's solid again.
Opened up the front a lil bit.

Re: WHYyyyy??? Because!! Rusty Double Cab!
Got a bit of time off in the holidays to work on it (busy time of course!). Got one whole top hat end welded in but I got all the insides rust proofed after a good degreasing/cleaning.
Still more cutting!
Inside the outriggers/tophats.
Oops, some overspray!
Done for the day!

I'm going to try and preserve that paint I love the fun colours!
I got it in Victoria (Canada though). There's a few hour ferry ride and I got a realll good look at what I impulsively bought. I drove 12 hours to pick it up so I wasn't leaving empty handed!

Got a little bit more done. And got it a bit more rust proofed. There's lots of dirt, dust, metal bits, so it takes a bit of time to get it all cleaned up, etc. Then the welding removes the protection and I have to re-do it. Is there a better way? I figure 'more' is better in these areas

As usual you are getting stuck quickly into another big project. You would get one very well with some select members on here that are also ambitious (read - NUTS).
The headlights are a bit different. Or are they missing the front lens?

Yes the headlights are a mess right now Missing the lenses.
Got some more welding done.
Rear quarter, I always dread the final cut, but this turned out really good.
More welding/grinding needed.
