Re: pg/sg 55
been a couple of months with little done but here goes, a small update..
got my hands on a nos steering peg.
thanks Steve k, so apart with the box again.
u can see the difference in old vs new old..
took off nut, and locking washer. tapped halves apart, yes they come as 2 pieces.
heres the 2 next to eachother, the new one has a taper on the inside, didnt make any difference installing it.
the tapered roller bearings were still good so they were utilized.
used grease to hold them on the surface, ended up using a red bearing grease, the box grease didnt have the right viscosity to hold them properly
put back together, tightened and voila!!
finally got to put the castle nut on, unless i find a nos shaft, i wont be undoing the box for a while... (hopefully)abd onto
and onto the windows.
been deciding wether to repair them or not, wont really use them with safaris, but be nice for them to work anyway.
both had snapped at the top of the threaded section.
so onto repairing.
cut the bolt and the shaft to an equal length to where the thread was and shaved a taper into both so a gusset can be welded in.
used aluminium as a guide to clamp both to so they dont move and are reasonably straight.
weld the gap up
shaved sides to suit washers..
an presto!!
both done..
not perfectly straight, but at the end of the day im not that super fussy with something noone will see and it will do the job just nicely!

I got stuck back into one the weekend cause a local 24hr mountain bike race got canned due to rain.
Door window rubbers all done, brakes now just need bleeding. Bit of paint touch up, motor and box in and its just about a driver.
But thats for another thread hey haha.
