Brad, I don't suppose you could get me a picture looking up into the space behind the vents with that whole driver's side wall out of the way?

Sure thing mate. Next time I am out I will get a couple of shots.
Glad to hear Al. You have obviously passed on some good skills and work ethics.

Re: Evie Bus - 1966 Aussie Standard
Photos are not the best but I collected my freshly blasted seats today.
Got them done at Brisbane Abrasive Blasters in Sherwood. $200 for full blast and prime. Happy with the results and service.
2/3 width middle. (Modified bay seat)
Driver
Passenger
Rear seat is going to be a kustom kombi rock and roll.
I finally managed (after the 5th place) to find somewhere that sells replacement springs for the old style seats and have ordered them.
But can anyone point me in the direction of a cheap option for joining the broken ends of springs to make them hole again?
Something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CS-Osborne-U ... 0900846632 but with a crimping format not Allen keys. Or alternatively someone that makes really small mild steel tube (does it exist?) that I can crimp on.
If not I will find something.
Also - Any chance someone has a pair of 3 prong spring clip pliers that the could lend me (in Brisbane - or I could pay 2 way postage) ?
Something like these.

If not I will having something that will work. Just want to make sure the clips are tight but don;t want to buy a new tool that I will use for 25 clips and then never need again.

Not really Mike. I have something similar to a hog ring in my kit.
The 3 prong clips are these ones.
http://www.diyupholsterysupply.com/4450-3.html
Just provide a larger crush area to work with.
Worst case scenario I can use the flat strapping clamping tool. But I would rather see if I can find access to the correct tool as I don;t want to risk it working loose over time as they are a high use item.
Thank you though.

Re: Evie Bus - 1966 Aussie Standard
I did think that. They take a bit of crushing though so I dismissed it as access would be through all the springs.
I think I have one in my workshop though so I will see what pressure it takes.
Funnily enough I was searching for things like 'small diameter tube' on ebay and the only thing that looked like it would work was a cock hole stretcher.....
I am certainly not buying that and trying to explain to the wife why her paypal registers that one

Thanks Pauly.
That 2/3 middle seat I can thank you for two. You brought it up from Mikki for me many moons ago

Re: Evie Bus - 1966 Aussie Standard
So my seats have gone off to Performance Upholstery (Mike) to get the works.
I have my name down for a full width rock and roll from Kustom Kombi too once they are back in stock.
At this stage we are looking at period TMI (Either 66 or 64-67 years) I gave my wife the go ahead to choose what she wants. Does not have to be period exact but I wanted something that is pretty close and would have been available at the time. Other than that fabric selection does my head in. Anita was giving me stick as after seeing Mike and then visiting fabrics shops it was the first time I turned to her in the night as said, "I have had enough of talking about Volkswagens today". Words I have never uttered before.
So the Middle seat got the old MDF backing replaced with Alpolic. 3 coats of Rattle can Epoxy Satin Black.
Plus a couple of new springs.
Front seats got the same treatment but springs will be done by Mike as will some welding repairs to the flat cross bars.
My new Coconut pads from BusnBug were waiting for me when I dropped the frames off. I decided to spend the extra money on these for the front seats as they are high use and have opted for foam for the middle seat and foam fro the rock and roll obviously.

I got some more rust work photos off Brad as well which is great as I have not been able to get down and check on the bus for a while.

Re: Evie Bus - 1966 Aussie Standard
As mentioned before. The long side was fine-ish. had been replaced before but the job was not terrific. Would require serious panel beating and filler or a new side. Figure I would kick myself later if it rusted again.
So Brad got me a new side. Arrived and test fitted so far. Hopefully it all locks into place well and does not require too much body work.
