Hi Tony

There is a small piece of square bar that runs through a square hole in the thin steel plate you can see in the middle of the clamp which holds the two pieces of steel together.

I haven't used them a lot but they are handy on occaision for some jobs.

Passenger pedestal replaced with one cut out of the spare parts bus, didn't remember to take any snaps of that process through!

The other dog leg is done, gaps are probably a little better on this side but not by much. Took some serious f#cking around to get it there though.

As you can see I completely buggered up the measurement for the floor and had to put in a strip to join the two sections

Seat mounts in and the seats actually fit and slide! Lots of holes to fill that appeared to have no purpose.

Dash hack fixed, just have to fill the extra switch hole.

The light at the end of the tunnel is slowly appearing!

Bloody hell. did they have a TV in the dash before you got it?

Ha! Yep I think they must have had something big in there at some point.....

Headlight support panel and valence now done.

Lots of work to do to fix the seal chanel and some of the lower A pillar where it was quite pitted. Surprisingly the inner part was really rust free!

I've found this copper based weld through primer is much nice to work with than the zink stuff.

It makes less splatter and seems to start easier

Heater tube is in, lower valence done and finally the old girl has a nose again. The good thing about using a nose panel of this height is that there is a lot less chance of warpage. Nice little milestone to give the old thing a nose again

Shame to loose the old patina though

Some time ago Clinton in Alice Springs gave me a lead to this old girl in the bush not too far out of town and I snuck in and cut out the headlight buckets the other day. There are a couple of other bits worth salvaging but its the end of our dry season with 6 foot high long grass everywhere and I didn't want to start a bushfire........

The buckets still needed some rust repair work once they were stripped of paint.

Also got the inside of the nose stripped and primed up.

Still poking away steadily, both front doors are done. The drivers door needed a crap load of work and unfortunately my repairs have now caused a ripple in the skin. I'm hoping to find a replacement but will roll with what I have if I cant.....The passenger door needs a dent pulled in the swage line.

Both cargo doors have had new lower inner and outers. I forgot to keep the door lock rod in one of them when I welded in the new inner section and then discovered the rod wouldn't move up and down

Now working ok but I need to salvage another cargo door latch out of the old panel van as the one I have has a crap load of play before it engages the lower rod.

Hours of stripping of paint and priming work have been done as well.

Roof replacement is next.....gulp

I'm thinking the open top look might be the go for Darwin's climate.....

Carved the back 2/3 of the roof off on Saturday and then spent many hours drilling out about 1000spot welds. The roof skin is not only welded to the gutter but also the side of the strengthener as well which makes lfe interesting. The passenger side had about a 1 metres section of rust under the strengthener so I have cut out that piece to get underneath. Despite some pitting I think it will be fine to keep in place.

The other side has the same problem over the cargo doors but is worse so I'll weld in a new gutter piece there as well.

Nice wasps nest in the fresh air box

Well I had hoped to have the metal work done by the end of this year but that's not going to happen!

To bloody hot up here at the moment do do more than about 5 hours work in the shed at a time without killing yourself......

New passenger side gutter sections are in and the strengthener sections are now folded and ready to go in as well.

Pic also attached showing how all of the roof and gutter sections go together.
