Ah thanks yeah needed to hear that, skim coating and sanding really isnt much fun.

But, if your block sanding with 40 grit, just before the filler drys makes it much easier.

you best friend is a power file with 40grt on it smashes out the long panel big time.

yeah I tried sanding before it fully hardens, but the paper clogs up.
at the moment im sanding by hand with 80 grit and a couple of block tools. Just using up the surplus from my gyprocking supplies. I found 40 grit ok for knocking down the first coat but 80 is better for the next coats.

Had a really hard time speading the first tin, it was very stiff and went off fast. I think it was old or something told the guy in the shop he really wasnt much help, missing the spraypaint supplies specialist i used to use.

Im not skimming everything just my weld joints, leaving lots of character on the panels thats for sure

I think it depends on the weather. I remember on a cold day the filler was hard to mix. But, on the hotter days was easier to mix. But dried faster.

The front after minimal filler over the weld line. Not perfect but im happy I could beat it out more and skim it thicker but wheres the fun in that ay.

well got the body work done. Time to bolt the parts back on, so far so good.

yeah thanks, I stayed with the military colour ( Nato green) but went with white for the roof to hopefully reflect the Aussie sun. Although the Nato green changes shades with the sun over the decades the only og paint that matched the new paint is under the door handle rubbers on the front doors.

the pictures are very flattering, the Nato green was applied by paint brush and the white is out of rattle cans.
The aim here is to get her done, on budget and ASAP. All matt / flattened 70% staying away from gloss seems to help. Its kinda better than the permanent "primer with guide coat" look i see so often usually on classic Fords and Holdens around Southwest Sydney.
