RUSTYBUS 11 window '58
Hi im Matt, I bought this kombi a year ago, ready to make a steady start on the old girl. Im new to kombi's, and vw, and know only what i have been able to read here, so input is appreciated.
My brother Jonny borrowed me a trailer and helped me drag it home with his patrol about 2 and a half hours to my place.
The attention the rusty old thing got at servos and such on the way home was quite excessive, almost weird.
rear floor over engine
floor, no sills either side
inside roof gutters, particularly rusty at the rear
front floor is really good
Plenty more areas as well, front passenger a pillar, rear end is pretty bad in the engine area. underneath mostly needs replacing, chassis is solid enough to hold together at this stage.

Boronia brown? I hope you are handy with the welder. Looks like it will be a good project.

Nice Matt! Awesome project!
Check twice before you cut and always pull apart seized bits with time not cut them, learnt that the hard way!

Yeah, love that hippy hand paint work! It's actually a time capsule from that time.....chriswill66 wrote:Love it matt, shame ya can't keep the 60's paint work.
My Dad's Kombi circa 1967 at Taronga Zoo. I'm the light weight with the skinny legs, my older brother is doing the roof jump!

Yep that was a matador at the guys house when i picked it up. It was sold as well.
The hippy stuff was done by the sellers kids many years ago, its really cool I reckon and a great tribute the the kombi, will be a shame to remove it.
Another really cool thing is one of the front doors has a map of australia hand painted on it with a red x painted everywhere the kombi has been. I would preserve it somehow but its faded to the point of nearly gone, i would never have spotted it but the guy i bought it off told me about it.
