1957 Dove Blue Splitty 11w - 'Vinnie'
Been a busy year with weddings and finishing the Oval and my '61 panel had sat patiently awaiting its time.
Unfortunately I just couldn't stop lusting after a window bus and had discussed the possibility of adding windows to my panel since it was rust free, but again, just couldn't bring myself to do it.
I didn't want to sell the panel, and be stuck bus'less due to the current silly market, and I hadn't seen any reasonably priced aussies splitties for sale until one Saturday night..
I was having dinner at my place with some mates and happy to hit the blue 'F' icon on my iphone that wastes too much of my day and noticed a fella post up a splitty for a quick sale in my favourite color, Dove Blue, all OG Aussie. Bus was in Cairns, and although not ideal, was doable.
I got in touch with him immediately and began the agonizing 30min wait for his contact number whilst post after tag after post confirmed the good purchase.
Finally he called me and said he had been blown away by the amount of interest, and I was the first person to contact him.
Needless to say the deal was done over the phone sight unseen and a hefty deposit placed via EFT that night to make my intent clear.
Story turns out that the fella I bought it off had been looking for a splitty for quite some time and had been given word of a bus that had been seen poking out of a shed on a farm property.
He then visited the property and was told the bus was not for sale. The Seres family had owned the bus from brand new in 1957 and used to commute for both their business and family hauler.
The original engine had been removed in 1969 and never went back in, and the bus was put in the shed.
After months and months of calling and staying in contact, the family finally decided to sell, and the fella brought the bus home in 2010, as the second owner.
The bus is incredibly original and complete, right down to the original purchase invoice and service history. 109,000 original miles and was in the shed from 1969 to 2010.
Some of the first pics I was sent:

After about 10 days it finally arrived at my place in good nick bar a dent that occurred in transport. The bus is complete and the mdf wood panels were to keep out any weather during the trip as those window frames had a little bit of rust in them and the glass removed to inspect.
After closer inpection the rust was identified and a list of replacment metal ordered from Autocraft and The Bus Stop. Stu was given the task of replaced the corroded stuff with the new stuff and what a skilled man he is!

Aaaannnd rust repairs finished
Stu did a fantastic job of removing as little as possible and preserving as much original metal as possible. The repairs you see below are obviously without any filler, just red oxide over the top.
The plan is a dust a bit of dove blue over the red oxide and rub it back again to keep it looking original and with its character.

Thanks guys, i've always wanted a semaphore bus and Dove Blue has always been my favourite color, so I guess it was meant to be.
Next on the list is an altitude adjustment courtesy of a 4" beam, spindles and an IRS conversion. Nothing crazy, just need to get it out of the clouds!
