Yea I see that AJ! Now I think that it might have been for a short period of time that they came like that?
No never. Always the pillar.....
But with early commercials - panels & utes - they didn't always come with a rear view mirror, it was an option. Think about it - with factory panelvan divider in place or ute hoops & tilt, a rear view mirror is useless anyway.
My '59 ute never had a rear view mirror (in the correct place) as there are no holes drilled on the pillar, but like yours, someone in the past drilled holes in the vent cover and put one there. I've welded those holes up, bought the correct (small) splitty rear view mirror and drilled holes in the pillar and mounted the mirror. Looks great and actually is very useful since my ute has no hoops & tilt.

Hey Tom,
Thanks mate.
Yea the custom spring plates from fresh customs are awesome and super easy to use.
In the front got a 4" narrowed beam with adjusters.
be careful with the bolt in big bore kits
if it is a 88mm (1670cc) kit give it a big miss there even no good for a beetle witch is a heap lighter.
the cylinders are way to thin .
the 87mm kits are better (1641) but usually not recommended for kombis for the same reason .
the amount of power you get from the extra cc is minuscule
a standard bore 1600 with kadrons and mild cam ,extractors ect will be more reliable than a slip in big bore kit
if you want more cc and going to rebuild anyway go 90.5 or 94mm witch is 1776cc & 1914cc with standard crank
much more reliable
