60' Kombi (maybe familiar to DSK)

Hi All,

This is my first post on DSK. Thanks go out to Leroy and John for getting me up and running on DSK.

We are the new owners of what may be a familiar bus to some on DSK. The story thus far is we acquired the 1960 type 23 from DSK member Paul Willans. Ripping bloke and knows all the tricks about tying down buses when rear loaded on a trailer such that the doors or pop outs don't blow off. We had to travel from Melbourne to NSW to get the bus and I made it a road trip for my 7 year old son. Two days there and back with a sleep over in a tent. Lots of quality time....

The bus is currently stashed away in our garage and has taken pride of place over the daily driver. Not sure how long this will last...

I will be needing lots of advice with the question of full restoration or rat the first point of call.

You can't go back to rat (original) after you go the whole hog. You can always do a full makeover down the track.

Yeah Roo I think your right. Can always go the full resto at a later date.

Rat is also a lot cheaper, no forking out for panel and paint

Hey Mark, good to see you made it! Such a good solid bus to start with! I'd be keeping it original too if it was mine. A full resto will be BIG bucks if you want to do it correctly. Just mu 2c. Enjoy the journey, and keep us all updated on progress

Thanks Dave. Will need plenty of support. Steep learning curve for me. Reading up on straight axle and drop spindles at the moment. Hopefully I can catch up with some of the DSK gurus at VW events and get pointers on what to tackle first.
