21 window- in the beginning

Why a few years get it sorted ..if og paint an original slammed 21w would be a great daily ..

The 21 window wasn't running when I bought it. It was last registered in Victoria in 1985 and had been stripped for resto by a previous owner and sprayed in undercoat. Probably 99% of the parts were there but were all stacked inside the bus, including the 1500 minus manifold, carb and alternator.

I had planned to get it on the road as soon as possible but a lack of funds, a few years of study, then travel and moving to WA got in the way. It's been stored in a succession of sheds and yards (thanks Brent) in Vic and SA ever since.

But one day I'll have the time and space to do it justice.

Will do Steve. We are hoping to relocate to SA in the next few years and getting to know the local VW scene will be a priority.

Not sure if I am missing many parts other than some engine bits, although the interior is pretty rough. The guy I bought it from is a VW collector who very generously included some NOS and good condition used parts he had collected before deciding not to resto the bus himself which considering the price of split bus parts now is a real bonus.

The bus is sea blue/white under the primer, with grey green/cream interior. It appears to have taken a hit at some stage on the drivers side and had a donor panel from a red bus grafted in between the wheel arches.

Here are some pics of my seats- original, aero papyrus interior. Floor mats blue rubber! All in this condition except the drivers seat. original bus colour sea blue/cumulus white. Is this what you mean when you say green/cream? The colour is actually a light almost metallic blue and is not reproduced. If this is what you have I will have some material surplus as I have been buying up anything usable that comes up for sale.

Yep Steve, that's the interior colour of my seats and door cards. I had a look at my photos and the front floor mat is faded but appears blue on the underside.
My seats are in much worse condition than yours and most have perished and split in the white sections, I also have some pretty severe sunburn patches on the interior panel vinyl and plenty of warped card, but I do a jar full of original clips, screws and aluminium washers and a spare middle seat from a 67 (I think) which has good dark grey vinyl.

I'd definitely be interested in buying any left over material you could spare.

Here is a pic of one of the many moves. I decided storing a 21 window in a shed surrounded by forest in the Otway Ranges probably wasn't a good idea after the Black Saturday fires went through Victoria a few years ago.

some pics of minor works - rebuilt steering box, NOS worm, locking shaft and peg courtesy of Pat from Thailand. Silver beige steering lock and shift lock with NOS silver beige horn button as colour comparison. Radio - blaupunkt, reconditioned. NOS 019 for what will be a TDE replica engine:- dual 34 PCI, TDE single port manifolds and air cleaners, linkages.
Will post a few pics of the stash of parts I have been collecting for years.

apologies for the slow progress, well slow in updating - some more shots- bus now having some work on the passenger floor- left the belly pans as is, too good to remove so took the floor off instead - spot welds are a pain.

looks like I will need to learn how to shrink down photos- I'll get on to it and update.
