'58' 11 window

Post by Jim Sulley »

Hi Guys
Today is a great day, finally brought home a Kombi. Its been along time in looking for one and looking at many only to find one within 50km of our house.
Thanks to an add I put on gumtree selling some old 5 stud beetle wheels, A guy called and asked to buy them He came around and bought them and as you do you get talking and he told me that he was pulling an old Kombi off of his land and he was going to restore it. I did say to him if you get fed up and wanted to sell it then give me a call. Low and behold 2 years later I get a text to see if I was interested in buying it. With a texted back and a few visits later the Kombi was coming home.
Thankyou Mark.
Not sure if the pictures have attach??

Took me 15 years to fine my kombi, 1 owner, first week of August 1959, (made in Wolfsburg Germany) 4&1/2 millions vehicle built&delivered in December of the same year to The Boy Scouts Victoria Australia ,11 window Kombi but I found it & drove it home. I will never part with it because as soon as you do you will never see another one as good. Paul.

Hi
I have a few questions if anyone help.

The chassis # 320467 is it a January 1958.

whats the stamped number KAK4379 on the left hand side of the engine bay.

Also has 'made in western Germany' in the recess of the deck lid lock.

Still has original back light lenses and sun visor all the glass and rear pop out catches, Not bad for a Kombi that was stood in a paddock for the last 25years. Still loads of work. Trying to load up pictures but having trouble.

Cheers Jim

Boy Jim, keep us hanging why don't you! :D The number on the left is the Australian build number. Your kombi, despite the "made in" tag, was put together here.
March 58 Euro 23.
April 59 Mango
Wanted:
59 crank handle (tick!)
cargo door outer handle 59
two perfect rear floor mats (pretty pretty please!!!)

Bucket works , nice early!

That tag looks like its been screwed on after the fact they are riveted on from factory.
