Yep, clamp it all in place first and tack along your butt weld so the panel is exactly where it’s going to be and then do that front section. I think mine was short at the top rather than the bottom but it’s the same process

Re: 58 mingo mango
With this RS weather the only option was to head to the shed
Welded the inner sill to the I beams and top hats, thanks copper for the tip on drilling into the I beams to get a better weld
Then onto getting the outer sill ready and tacked on Trying go slow and steady on the advice from people that know more and done more sill repairs then me so
So weld cool and then move along a few inches and repeat and then when I get to the end back to the fire for a biscuit and a sip of coffee
Lovin life, great to be back in the shed with the fire going

Looking great mate. Hard to tell from the pics, have you taken some paint off the bottom of the original panel? Clean metal = much nicer welds.

Get a few hours here and there in the shed with a extended rain delay on harvest
Outer sill welded in and ground down. Pretty happy with my first attempt on a repair like this Part way through the front alteration

Looking good mate. Given how big that gap is at the front wouldn’t hurt to put a filler piece in. Didn’t realise how far off your panel was.

All finished of, maybe a small bit of hammer and dolly work from the inside to take out a low spot just under the weld and it should just need a small skim of filler and she's ready for a coat of jam

Great work. What are you using to knock down the welds? Looks clean as.

Jam? Wouldn’t paint be better?
